This 1974 Jaguar E-Type Series III roadster is powered by a 5.3-liter V12 linked with a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The car is finished in Regency Red with a black soft top over Biscuit leather and rides on 15” knock-off wire wheels coupled with disc brakes at all four corners. Further equipment includes power steering and quadruple Zenith-Stromberg carburetors along with an AM/FM radio and air conditioning. The selling dealer acquired the car in 2025, and subsequent work involved overhauling the brakes, adding a PerTronix electronic ignition, and performing other repairs detailed below. This Series III E-Type is now offered by the selling dealer with recent service records and a clean Ohio title.

The car is said to have left the factory finished in Regency Red and was repainted under previous ownership. It features a replacement black soft top with a matching top boot as well as a forward-hinged louvered hood, uncovered headlights, and US-spec bumpers. The selling dealer notes delamination of the windshield and rock chips around the body.

The 15″ wire-spoke wheels are secured with knock-off spinners and are mounted with 205/70/15 Mastercraft Stratus tires. The Series III E-Type was factory equipped with power steering as well as four-wheel disc brakes with inboard-mounted rear rotors. Service in 2025 included overhauling the brakes and repacking the front wheel bearings as well as replacing the high-pressure power steering hose, lower ball joints, outer tie-rod ends, and inner tie-rod assemblies.

The cabin features front bucket seats that were reupholstered in Biscuit leather under previous ownership. Interior amenities include an AM/FM radio, a locking glovebox, and retractable shoulder belts. The air conditioning system was recharged and the rocker switches for the blower motor and dash lights were replaced under current ownership.

The leather-wrapped steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 6,500-rpm redline. An analog clock along with auxiliary gauges for voltage, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level are mounted in the center stack. The choke cable indicator assembly was replaced and the tachometer and oil pressure gauge were serviced in 2025. The five-digit odometer shows 16k miles, approximately 50 of which were added under current ownership. The selling dealer tells us that total mileage is unknown.

The 5.3-liter V12 was factory equipped with quadruple Zenith-Stromberg carburetors and rated at 241 net horsepower and 285 lb-ft of torque when new. A PerTronix electronic ignition was added in 2025, and additional work at that time involved replacing the ignition coil, choke cable, vacuum advance, starter, alternator bearing, coolant temperature sensor, radiator hoses, and fan relays as well as changing the fuel and air filters.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. Work in 2025 involved replacing the clutch cylinders and flushing the system.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
