This 1964 Jaguar XKE Series I coupe was acquired by the seller in 1970 and driven a reported 95k miles before being put into storage in 1992 at their home shop, where it sat for approximately 27 years before undergoing a rotisserie refurbishment between 2019 and 2026. Repainted in Bright White and fitted with replacement Cinnamon leather upholstery, the car is powered by a rebuilt 3.8-liter inline-six linked to a retrofitted synchromesh four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. It features a replacement aluminum hood with enclosed headlights and rides on 15″ wire-spoke wheels coupled with Gaz adjustable shocks as well as Wilwood front disc brakes. Inside, a wood-rimmed steering wheel is accompanied by Smiths instrumentation and a retro-look stereo. This XKE Series I is now offered with a book documenting the refurbishment, a tool kit, and a clean Oregon title in the seller’s name.
A bound book detailing the rotisserie refurbishment completed by the seller between June 2019 and February 2026 is included in the sale. Work involved stripping and disassembling the body, performing bodywork, repainting the car, re-trimming the interior, rebuilding the engine, installing a synchromesh transmission, overhauling the rear end, and upgrading the brakes as well as the suspension. Pages from the book showing photos from the refurbishment and seller notes detailing the process are presented in the gallery.
Series I E-Types were equipped with covered headlights as well as taillights mounted above the chrome rear bumpers. This example was fitted with a replacement aluminum louvered clamshell hood and repainted in Bright White as part of the aforementioned refurbishment. Covered headlights, triple windshield wipers, wraparound chrome bumpers, a passenger-side bullet-style side mirror, and a side-hinged rear hatch are further details.
The 15″ wire wheels are secured by two-eared knock-offs and are mounted with 185-series Michelin tires that have 2023 date codes. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel discs featuring Wilwood front calipers with cross-drilled and ventilated discs as well as stainless-steel rear calipers over solid rotors. The suspension has been modified with Gaz adjustable shocks as well as adjustable torsion bars.
The re-trimmed cabin houses bucket seats upholstered in Cinnamon leather along with a color-coordinated center console, door panels, and carpets. Additional interior appointments include a retro-look stereo, black vinyl dash trim, and three-point seatbelts.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames a Smiths 160-mph speedometer and 6k-rpm tachometer, while auxiliary gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and amperage are located in the center of the dashboard. The five-digit odometer has rolled over and now shows 57k miles. The seller notes that 95k miles were added under their ownership prior to the refurbishment.
The 3.8-liter inline-six and triple SU carburetors were disassembled and rebuilt as part of the refurbishment. The project also involved adding stainless-steel headers and exhaust piping, an aluminum radiator, a customized valve cover, an electronic distributor, and an electric fuel pump as well as fitting a lip seal to the rear of the crankshaft.
The retrofitted full-synchromesh four-speed manual transmission is said to have been sourced from a 1965 Jaguar. The rear end was rebuilt as part of the refurbishment and features a limited-slip differential.
The seller tells us that the reproduction chassis plate was stamped with the factory car, body, and engine numbers along with the gearbox number of the retrofitted synchromesh unit.
