This 1958 Jaguar XK150 roadster was converted to a race car under previous ownership and competed in SVRA and HSR events over the years, reportedly securing wins at Sebring, Mid-Ohio, Road America, Road Atlanta, Watkins Glen, and more. It was purchased by the current owner in 2018 and its 4.2-liter inline-six was refreshed in 2020. Composite leaf springs and power-assisted steering were added in 2022, and the car is said to have last been raced in 2024, earning class wins at Mid-Ohio and Elkhart Lake as well as taking the Appearance Award at a Road America event. Finished in white over tan leather upholstery, the car also features triple SU carburetors, a dry-sump oiling system, an aluminum radiator with electric fans, a Richmond Super T-10 four-speed manual transmission, four-wheel disc brakes, AutoMeter instrumentation, a single bolstered seat, a roll bar, and 15″ knock-off wire wheels mounted with Hoosier slicks. This XK150 race car is now offered in Columbus, Ohio, by the seller on behalf of the current owner with an engine refresh invoice, a spare set of wheels and tires, and a bill of sale.

The custom steel body is finished in white and features no doors or bumpers. Equipment includes a quick-release hood and trunk lid, headlight stone guards, a driver’s windscreen, a headrest fairing, a roll bar, a battery cutoff switch, dual side mirrors, and #78 decals.

Silver-finished 15″ knock-off wire wheels wear Hoosier slicks at all four corners. Stopping power is provided by discs with red calipers, while ducts cool the units in front. The chassis is said to have been refreshed in 2022, which included installing composite leaf springs and power-assisted steering. GAZ front and Koni rear shock absorbers are fitted.

The single-seat cockpit includes a bolstered bucket trimmed in tan leather along with a matching headrest and padding. A Racequip safety harness and fire extinguisher are installed, and controls for the brake bias, engine timing, cooling fans, and fuel system are located on the dash.

The quick-release steering wheel sits ahead of centrally-located AutoMeter instrumentation. The digital odometer indicates 2k miles, and total mileage is unknown.

The 4.2-liter inline-six features dual-overhead camshafts and a dry-sump oiling system. It was refreshed in 2020 by North Coast Exotics of Cleveland, Ohio, with work involving replacement of the piston rings, bearings, valve springs, gaskets, and spark plugs. The engine is equipped with triple SU side-draft carburetors, and cooling is via an aluminum radiator with electric fans.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a Richmond Super T-10 four-speed manual transmission.

Nice XK120 restomod, but dropping in an XKE engine and riveting on an XKE data plate doesn't make it an XKE.

Which is why the "Title Date" field is left open, can't call this car a 1958.

BAT AUCTION RESERVE NOT MET

It should be noted that this car is offered without title.

My guess is, someone had a for-metal-scrap xk150, a 4.2, and an E-type data plate laying around and simply wanted to go racing. Fair enough.

There is only a problem if the title ever gets sold with an e-type chassis or the e-type chassis (or at least the front end) still exist and manages to get titled (or indeed even to that body number) someday, with a reproduction data plate.

xtype is correct. Owning a car like this with an incorrect VIN is a risk. One must have a long paper trail of verifiable ownership to stand against anyone who might challenge it. One might not even have to have the car in their possession if they have a legal title to it. Whoever has the best paper trail will win any argument.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
