VIN 887249
This E-Type FHC is a previously restored, ‘matching numbers’ example of Jaguar’s 1960s sporting GT.
It is powered by a 3.8-litre inline-six, delivering up to 265bhp to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission.
The left-hand-drive car was originally delivered to Texas, USA, before being imported into the UK in 2000 where it underwent a thorough restoration.
It was re-registered with the DVLA in March 2019.
EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES
The car is finished in its original colour combination of Old English White over a red leather-trimmed cabin completed by Aldridge Trimming.
It rides on a set of 15-inch wire wheels with twin-eared knock-off nuts and wrapped in Blockley tyres.
The cabin is fitted with Smiths gauges, a row of rocker switches for the car’s ancillary functions, and a push-button radio and speakers neatly integrated in the dashboard.
Accompanying the sale is the owner’s handbook, service book, a folder of photographs and restoration invoices, historic correspondence, original bill of sale, toolkit, jack, and Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate.
CONDITION
Specific notes from the seller include: minor pitting on the brightwork, a slight chip on the left-hand-side chrome window trim, and some lacquer peel on the original steering wheel.
The seller is not aware of any electrical or mechanical faults.
Due to its age, the vehicle is now exempt from mandatory MOT testing. However, the most recent MOT test was conducted on 6 July 2023 at 88,672 miles, resulting in a clean first-time pass.
SERVICE HISTORY
The car was last serviced by Eternia Works in June 2023 at 88,670 miles. This included adjusting the doors, stripping and cleaning the carburettors, replacing the measuring needles and then tuning the carburettors, cleaning oil leaks, resealing cam covers, cleaning brake contamination and replacing the brake pads, repairing the windscreen washers, replacing the battery, reseating the fuel line, safety lock-wiring the rear calliper fastening bolts, painting and readjusting the exhaust, and servicing the engine.
Prior to this, the car underwent a 10-year restoration during the previous ownership. Paperwork and photographs supporting this are supplied with the car

Availability Immediate - consignment sale
We are offering for sale this beautiful 1962 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 Coupe with the fabulous 3.8L 6-cylinder engine. Delivered new on October 28, 1962, in New York, it is presented for sale today in its exact original configuration as delivered in late 1962. The car is matching numbers.
According to the history of invoices and documents we have, the car went to Texas, where it belonged to a wealthy Texan industrialist who had always driven Jaguars since 1954 (XK120M) and who had his own service garage.
He sold the car in 1981 to another Texan, who used it until 1983 before selling it to its new owner in Oklahoma. Mr. J. kept it until March 26, 2000.
An Englishman, Mr. B., bought it for $3,000 in a wrecked state, requiring a complete restoration. He took his time, as he wouldn't be able to register it until 2019 after it had passed the required British roadworthiness tests and inspection.
The car was entrusted to Hinton Services Ltd in Wittshire. The car was in excellent condition, complete, and original, with its original whitewall tires and three SU carburetors. It was completely disassembled, confirming the body's exceptional soundness. A comprehensive photo album documenting the restoration accompanies our description. It turned out to be a good deal. The body was sandblasted and treated, as was the Eiffel Tower. All peripheral components were rebuilt, including the gearbox and engine. The rear axle was also rebuilt, the upholstery was given a beautiful new paint job, and the original tools were included.
We have all the invoices for the parts purchased for the restoration. The advantage is that in England, for the Jaguar E-Type, it's extremely easy.
In February 2024, one of our clients, residing in England, purchased this Jaguar directly for personal use. It's true, and this is an important detail, it's left-hand drive, which makes driving in the UK less convenient; the narrow roads are quite challenging. So here is this Jaguar, now in France, and we are tasked with selling it.
The car has been fitted with modern equipment, including a lighter damper, a high-torque starter for easier starting, and an additional fan for improved cooling.
The car is magnificent, incredibly enjoyable to drive, the gearbox is smooth, the new suspension is very comfortable, and the sound from the stainless steel exhaust is a delight for the ears.
Structurally, the car is in excellent condition, the floors are sound, the front crossmember is also sound, the Eiffel Tower supporting the engine has been treated and repainted, the sills are sound, the engine hood is in perfect condition, no deformations, the doors close well, the alignments are perfect, the car is very sound, the paintwork is magnificent.
The recent upholstery, with its original bucket seats, is in excellent condition, as are the carpets and door panels. The seats are firm, providing an ideal driving position.
The engine has been rebuilt and is fully functional. The car is responsive and smooth to drive, with excellent acceleration thanks to the torque of the inline 6-cylinder engine. The sound is exceptional, with its stainless steel exhaust system. The engine has been regularly maintained. The gearbox is also perfectly suited for driving.
The accessories are in very good condition, as are the headlights and bumpers. The car has been fitted with new wire wheels and excellent tires.
Our opinion
A truly beautiful collector's item, a Jaguar that remains timeless and is a pleasure to behold thanks to its beauty and class.
