This 1972 Jaguar E-Type Series III 2+2 is a rolling project that underwent restorative work in the 1990s. The body was stripped to bare metal and repainted, the 5.3-liter V12 was rebuilt, and the brakes and suspension were overhauled. It was donated to the National Museum of Transportation in 2004, and the seller describes the car as a project that will require mechanical sorting and interior work. The car retains a four-speed manual transmission, four-wheel disc brakes, power steering, 15” knock-off wire wheels, quadruple carburetors, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a push-button radio, and air conditioning components. The tires were replaced in preparation for the sale. This Series III E-Type is now offered with service records and a clean Missouri title in the museum’s name.
The car was stripped and repainted in the early 1990s by its previous owner. The Silver Gray paintwork is contrasted by chrome trim, and records of the work are provided in the gallery.
The car was delivered to the museum in running and driving condition, though it has not been started recently. The seller notes the engine turns over.
The 15″ wire-spoke wheels are secured on knock-off hubs, and Roadone tires were mounted in November 2025. The Series III E-Type was factory equipped with power steering, and stopping power is provided by four-wheel disc brakes with inboard-mounted rear rotors.
The interior requires upholstery work and a replacement headliner. A push-button radio has been retained in the dashboard.
The leather-wrapped steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 6,500-rpm redline. An analog clock along with auxiliary gauges for voltage, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level are mounted in the center stack. The five-digit odometer shows 62k miles.
The 5.3-liter V12 was factory equipped with quadruple Zenith-Stromberg carburetors and was rated at 314 horsepower and 349 lb-ft of torque when new. It was rebuilt in the early 1990s and currently turns over, though it does not run.
A four-speed manual transmission is linked to a limited-slip differential.
