This 1971 Jaguar E-Type Series III left the factory as a 2+2 coupe and is believed to have undergone a roadster conversion and refurbishment prior to 1996, when it was acquired by the previous owners. Chassis 1S71298BW is said to have remained with them for the next 29 years until its acquisition by the selling dealer in late 2025. The car is finished in white with a black soft top over black leather–trimmed seats and is powered by a 5.3-liter V12 with quadruple Zenith-Stromberg carburetors that is linked with a three-speed automatic transmission and a limited-slip differential. It rides on 15″ steel wheels with polished hubcaps and is further equipped with power steering, disc brakes, and Koni shocks. Additional appointments include air conditioning, a push-button AM/FM radio, and Smiths instrumentation. This Series III E-Type is now offered by the selling dealer with a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate and an Oregon title.
The selling dealer tells us that the car was converted to a roadster and repainted in Old English White as part of the aforementioned refurbishment completed sometime prior to 1996. A black soft top, a forward-hinged louvered hood, uncovered headlights, quad exhaust outlets, and chrome bumpers with overriders are further details.
The 15″ steel wheels feature polished hubcaps and are mounted with Firestone tires measuring 205/70. The Series III E-Type was factory equipped with power steering as well as four-wheel disc brakes with inboard-mounted rear rotors. This example rides on Koni shocks, and the selling dealer notes that the brakes were serviced in preparation for the sale.
The cabin features bucket seats upholstered in black leather as well as a color-coordinated dash, center console, door panels, and carpets. Interior amenities include a push-button AM/FM radio, air conditioning, and a sliding rear-view mirror.
The leather-wrapped steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 6,500-rpm redline. An analog clock along with auxiliary gauges for voltage, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level are mounted in the center stack. The five-digit odometer shows 68k miles.
The 5.3-liter V12 was factory equipped with quadruple Zenith-Stromberg carburetors and was rated at 314 horsepower and 349 lb-ft of torque when new. The selling dealer tells us that a tune-up was performed, the engine oil was changed, the fuel tank was cleaned, and the fuel filters were replaced in preparation for the sale.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a three-speed automatic transmission and a limited-slip differential.
The Production Record Trace Certificate from the Jaguar Heritage Trust lists the original colors and drivetrain numbers for chassis 1S71298BW as well as the build and dispatch dates.
A composite image of various identifying markings around the car is shown above. The transmission tag is inverted, and the selling dealer is unable to locate the body number tag.
