1973 JAGUAR E-TYPE SERIES 3 V12 ROADSTER

28/10/2022

29,922 miles (indicated)

RHD manual

Billinghurst, West Sussex, United Kingdom

Engine Size5.3L V12

Exterior British Racing Green

Interior Biscuit Leather

A well-presented final-series example of the iconic and beautifully styled open-top sports car, finished in British Racing Green over Biscuit leather.

Under the bonnet is the original 5.3-litre naturally aspirated V12, producing around 272bhp, coupled to a four-speed manual transmission.

Manufactured in August 1973 and first registered in May 1974, it was originally sold through Mann Egerton of Leigh-on-Sea, Essex.

It has had ten owners from new, and has now been with the seller for six years.

The odometer shows 29,922 miles, though this is not warranted.

Equipment and features

According to its Jaguar Heritage Trust Production Record Trace certificate, this E-Type was originally specified with British Racing Green paintwork over Moss Green leather upholstery. However, the interior has now been re-trimmed in Biscuit leather.

As standard, the Series 3 also came with uprated brakes and power steering.

It rides on a set of 15-inch wire-spoke wheels, shod with Hercules MRX Plus IV tyres.

Inside, it has a three-spoke wood-trimmed Moto-Lita steering wheel, Smiths dials, an analogue Kienzle clock and an upgraded Sony stereo.

There are also three plaques on the glovebox cover, from the 1979 Beaulieu Jaguar Spring Meeting, the 1979 Jaguar Drivers Club E-Type Register ‘International E-Type Day’ at Mallory Park, and the 1981 Beaulieu Jaguar Spring Meeting, which celebrated 25 years since the formation of the Jaguar Drivers Club.

Accompanying the vehicle will be its owner’s manual, Jaguar Heritage Trust Production Record Trace certificate and original stereo, along with a collection of maintenance invoices and MOT certificates, a soft red car cover, and a tonneau cover.

Condition

The seller is not aware of any bodywork damage.

Its British Racing Green paintwork was resprayed four years ago and is reportedly in excellent condition, now presenting with minor swirl marks around the car and stone chips on the front end.

Inside, the re-trimmed upholstery features age-related creasing and some light wear to the driver’s seat, as well as age-appropriate signs of use on the major touchpoints, though the cabin presents very well overall.

The seller is not aware of any mechanical or electrical faults.

The most recent MOT test was on 27 August 2019 at 29,088 miles, which was a clean pass with no advisories or defects.

Service history

Its most recent service was in November 2021 at 29,500 miles, where technicians at Beacon Hill Engineering replaced the engine oil and spark plugs, and all greasing points.

In 2021, the car was fitted with a new hood.

The radiator was replaced in December 2020 and routine services were carried out in 2019 and 2018.

The car was also resprayed and fitted with a new windscreen in 2018.

The vacuum and fuel pipes were replaced in 2017.

The car has previously benefited from the fitment of an upgraded ignition kit, as well as a new relay unit, brake master cylinder and water pump.

In 2009, the wire wheels, clutch kit, clutch slave cylinder and exhaust manifolds were replaced, and the gearbox was reconditioned.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
