Sellers description:
1972 Jaguar XKE Series III Roadster
s/n 1S20706, Engine no. 7S7524SA
Opalescent Blue with Blue Leather

This particular example is a stunning car, presented in the popular opalescent blue which was an optional factory color on Series I cars. It is trimmed in high quality blue leather, and carries the desirable 4-speed manual transmission and air conditioning options. It has been a California Bay Area car for approximately the last fifteen years, with considerable service work having been carried out by Jaguar restoration and service expert Steve Gordon of Oakland, California. Recent paint work was performed by Brian Hoyt's Perfect Reflections, a multi-time Pebble Beach Concours winning shop. The upholstery work was done by Jim Silva's Sure Fit, also with an excellent reputation locally.

The car has a fresh presentation inside and out. It can be best described as an outstanding driver condition car, although the initial appearance is that of a fully restored automobile. The bodylines, paint work, and chrome, is all in good order. The upholstery, carpets, top, and switchgear are all excellent. The engine bay is reasonably well detailed, and it is clear that considerable care has been taken carry out all maintenance and repairs in a professional manner. The underside of the car is generally very solid, and while perhaps not fully detailed, is in keeping with a nice driver condition car.

The car runs and drives well with good power, easy to operate power steering, effective brakes, great synchros, and a solid driveline. The air conditioning blows, but not very cold.

Included with the car are records for recent restorative works which stand at least two inches thick, demonstrating the care which has been taken with this car during the current and previous ownership periods.

Lot #222926

This 1972 Jaguar E-Type Series III roadster was built in June 1972 and dispatched to New York, and it is powered by a 5.3-liter V12 linked with a four-speed manual transmission. Refurbished around 2010, the car is finished in Light Blue over black leather upholstery. Features include a blue soft top, four-wheel disc brakes, power steering, 15” knock-off wire wheels, quadruple carburetors, four exhaust outlets, air conditioning, and an AM/FM radio. This E-Type OTS is now offered by the selling dealer with a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate, an owner’s handbook, a service manual, and a clean Tennessee title.

The car was finished from the factory in Light Blue and was repainted during the aforementioned refurbishment, the seller tells us. Exterior features include a blue soft top, uncovered Lucas headlights, a forward-hinged louvered hood, a driver-side mirror, bright trim, quadruple exhaust outlets, and chrome bumpers with overriders.

Chrome-finished 15″ wire wheels are secured with knock-off spinners and are mounted with 205/70 Goodyear Assurance tires that were manufactured in 2022. The Series III E-Type was factory equipped with power steering, and stopping power is provided by four-wheel disc brakes with inboard-mounted rear rotors.

The cabin features seating surfaces upholstered in black leather plus blue door panels and carpeting. Interior amenities include air conditioning, a British Leyland–branded AM/FM radio, a passenger-side grab handle, a locking glovebox, and a heater. The A/C was repaired in October 2025, according to the seller.

The three-spoke steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 6,500-rpm redline. An analog clock along with auxiliary gauges for battery voltage, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level are positioned in the center stack. The five-digit odometer shows 79k miles, approximately 25 of which were added by the selling dealer.

The 5.3-liter V12 was factory equipped with quadruple Zenith-Stromberg carburetors and was rated at 272 horsepower and 304 lb-ft of torque when new. The seller notes that leaks were repaired in October 2025, although some leaks remain.

Power is directed to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential.

The Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Production Record Trace certificate shows the original colors and drivetrain numbers, and it also documents that the car was built on June 1, 1972, and was dispatched to New York on June 22.
