Ebay item 6/4/09

cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Jaguar-E-Type-1969-Jaguar-E-Type-w-A-C-Restored-Second-O ...

Opening bid $14,999.99, no reserve, no bids yet 9 days left in auction. Madison, Alabama

Sellers description:

The 1969 Jaguar E-Type you find before you is an excellent and well kept example.

If you are so privileged to be the winner of this auction, you will purchase this car from the second owner, Mr. Sterling Withington, who purchased it in 1971 in Detroit Michigan. Almost everything on the car is original. All of the numbers on the original identification plate match what is currently in the car. Even the original warranty and service vouchers are still on hand.

You will find documentation for some of the $25k of restoration work which has been performed on this vehicle in the past few years below the photos. Over 40 pages of documentation is provided, more will accompany the vehicle to it's new home. The details of the restoration work, which amounts to all mechanical systems and the exterior of the vehicle, can be noted there.

Air Conditioning, a selected factory option for this vehicle, is a very rare find for an E-Type.

The exterior of the vehicle is nearly flawless with one noticeable imperfection on the bonnet. It is finished in it's original color; British Racing Green (Dupont Lacquer 8323L). The paint was applied to the individual disassembled panels and the front frame while the engine was out; note this was not a cheap "mask a spray" paint job. The wheels are the original factory wire spoke wheels. The rubber seals for the waist, convertible top, bumper, bumper guard, window, bonnet, cantrail, window tee, threshold, A post, shut face, and trunk are all new. The chrome on the car is in great condition with minimal bubbling visible in some areas upon close inspection. An emblem for the boot lid is missing and the convertible top is not currently affixed to the car. The chrome trim piece that covers the seam for the top is on hand and will, of course, go with the car. The heel well on the driver side was replaced during the restoration process.

The engine, transmission, drive shaft, and rear differential are all completely rebuilt. The cylinder head was rebuilt properly with new intake and exhaust valves, new bronze valve guides, 3 angle valve job, new valve stem seals, new guide rings, camshaft sprocket snap retaining rings, camshaft bearing studs, and new intake and exhaust studs. On the bottom end of the engine everything was checked for integrity, align bored, honed, and assembled with new bearings, rings, and seals. The transmission was completely disassembled, inspected, rebuilt, and new synchros went in where neccessary.

There are many other new mechanical parts on the vehicle.

Now that you have an idea of what is already taken care of on the vehicle, let's venture off to the subject of what needs to be addressed. In addition to the issues noted above, the owner would like potential buyers to know about the following items:

* The gauges are not wired properly.

* The light switch panel needs to be rewired.

* The A/C is not wired properly.

* The odomoeter was reset to zero by the mechanic who rebuilt the engine.

* The emergency brake is not connected.

* The seats need to be recovered.

* The car needs new carpeting.

* The aluminum intake runners and the airbox are not seen in the photographs of the engine, but are included with new bolts and gaskets.

Car now offered at:

www.classicdriver.com/en/car/jaguar/e-type-sii/1969/1089510

Seller's description:

1969 Jaguar E-Type SII 4.2-Litre

Oldtimer Galerie Toffen

Year of manufacture 1969

Car type Convertible / Roadster

Chassis number 1R9557

Lot number 110

Condition Restored

The Series 2 Roadster offered here was delivered to the USA and first registered there in July 1969. The available information indicates that the E-Type was acquired in 1971 by a Mr. Sterling Withington, who remained loyal to the Jaguar until 2009. In June of that year, the car was offered for sale as a restoration project and was then sold to Switzerland. In 2015, the roadster was acquired by the consignor and added to his small collection. At the end of 2019, he decided to undertake it to a complete restoration, during which the car was dismantled down to the last screw. The engine was completely overhauled and fitted with new pistons for a 9:1 compression ratio, new valves, new valve seats for unleaded fuel and lightweight titanium push rods. An electronic ignition and three new SU carburettors with a matching intake manifold were installed. The gearbox was overhauled, a new clutch was fitted, and the rear axle was given a new ring gear with pinion in European 3.07 ratio. Of course, the body was completely restored and repainted in gunmetal grey. The interior was also restored and fitted with new red leather upholstery. The suspension and brake system were overhauled or replaced, and a high-performance aluminium radiator with new electric fans and a stainless-steel exhaust system were installed. After more than four years and well over CHF 200’000.-, the E-Type was in almost mint condition. Due to time constraints, the consignor now wishes to part with his beautiful roadster, which is in excellent condition with only 2’500 km on the clock since completion. The Jaguar will be handed over to a new enthusiast with it’s last veteran MOT completed in May 2024 and can be registered immediately in most German-speaking cantons of Switzerland.
