This 1969 Jaguar XKE Series II roadster was purchased new in August 1969 from Tappan Motors of North Tarrytown, New York, and it was purchased by the seller in 1980. The car has been repainted in Pale Primrose over replacement black leather upholstery and is powered by a replacement 4.2-liter inline-six linked with a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. Equipment includes a black soft top, a louvered clamshell hood, dual Stromberg 175-CD2 carburetors, mesh air cleaners, a stainless-steel exhaust system, four-wheel disc brakes, 15″ wire wheels, a Nardi wood-rimmed steering wheel, and an Audiovox AM/FM/cassette stereo. The wheels and tires were replaced in 2025 along with engine and transmission mounts. This XKE roadster is now offered with a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, manufacturer’s literature, service records since 1986, tire-changing tools, a removed set of wire wheels and tires, and transferable New York registration in the seller’s name.
Finished from the factory in Pale Primrose, the car is said to have been repainted under prior ownership after being parked in a Manhattan garage for approximately 10 years, the seller tells us. The black soft top was replaced in 2019, and other exterior equipment includes sealed-beam open headlights, a louvered clamshell hood, dual side mirrors, wraparound chrome bumpers, bright trim, and dual exhaust outlets. The seller notes that the paint has peeled on the hood area around the headlights and the directional lights. The seller also states that the drivers-side rocker panel needs attention and the drivers-side front floor section requires replacement. Rust is evident on the hood, under the battery tray on the rocker panel, and elsewhere.
Chrome-finished 15″ wire wheels are secured by rounded knock-offs and are mounted with Arroyo Eco Pro A/S tires measuring 205/70; the wheels and tires were replaced in 2025, and the removed wire wheels and Continental tires will accompany the vehicle. Braking is provided by four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rear rotors; the calipers, rotors, and lines were replaced in 2017.
The cabin features bucket seats that were reupholstered in black leather in 2019. Interior appointments include a color-coordinated center console, door panels, and carpeting along with a locking glovebox, a heater, and an Audiovox AM/FM/cassette stereo; the cassette player does not work. The steering column was disassembled to replace the horn switch. Wear on the dashboard is pictured in the gallery below. The seller notes that the heater box leaks antifreeze and the heater motor has been removed.
The Nardi wood-rimmed steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 5k-rpm redline as well as an analog clock and gauges for voltage, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 65k miles, approximately 34k of which were added under current ownership. The clock does not work.
The 4.2-liter inline-six was replaced under warranty decades ago, according to the seller, and it is equipped with a pair of Zenith-Stromberg carburetors. The engine was rebuilt in the mid-1980s, when the pistons were replaced, the cylinder head was shaved, and the rods and pistons were balanced. In 2019, a valve job was performed and the exhaust manifold was replaced. Three engine and transmission mounts were replaced in 2025.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. A stainless-steel exhaust system was fitted in 2010. The seals and bearings for the differential were replaced in 2017. Rust is visible on underbody components.
The Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate lists the original colors and component numbers along with manufacture on March 31, 1969, and dispatch to New York.
The aged identification plate shown at the top of the image above has been replaced by the other depicted tag, which has been attached to the car near the battery box.
The vehicle is being sold on its New York registration, which serves as the ownership document in New York.
