This 1970 Jaguar XKE Series II coupe is said to have sat as an unfinished project for a number of years before being acquired by the seller in 2025 and completed. Work involved removing and reinstalling the 4.2-liter inline-six as well as replacing the driveshaft, refurbishing the brake hydraulics, overhauling the rear suspension, changing the shocks and springs, and more as detailed below. Finished in green over beige leather, the car rides on 15″ wire wheels and features a louvered clamshell hood as well as uncovered headlights. The engine breathes through dual Zenith-Stromberg carburetors, while shifting is through a four-speed manual transmission linked with a limited-slip differential. Inside, bucket seats are accompanied by a wood-rimmed steering wheel framing Smiths instrumentation. This XKE coupe is now offered with records from current ownership, spare parts, and a clean Connecticut title in the seller’s name.
The car is finished in green and features a louvered clamshell hood, sealed-beam open headlights, and wraparound bumpers. The seller notes notes various dents as well as bubbling in the paint and reports that various areas of the body require paintwork.
The 15″ wire wheels are secured by three-eared knock-offs and are mounted with 195-width Michelin X tires. The car rides on an independent suspension, while braking is provided by four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rear rotors. Work under current ownership has involved the following:
Replacing the brake master cylinder, booster, reservoir, and heat shield
Changing the brake hoses as well as the rear calipers, pads, and rotors
Overhauling the rear suspension
Replacing the shocks and springs
The cabin features bucket seats upholstered in beige leather along with a color-coordinated center console, door panels, and carpets. The center stack retains speakers on either side, though the car is not equipped with a radio. The heater does not work.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel features drilled spokes and frames Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 5k-rpm redline as well as an analog clock and gauges for voltage, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 56k miles, approximately 200 of which were added under current ownership.
The 4.2-liter inline-six was factory equipped with dual Zenith-Stromberg carburetors and rated at 246 horsepower and 263 lb-ft of torque when new. The seller notes that the engine was partially installed when they acquired the car and was removed following their purchase for inspection. The unit was reinstalled as part of the recommissioning work, which also involved the following:
Removing and inspecting the cylinder head
Replacing the battery, ignition coil, distributor cap, rotor, and spark plugs
Installing a high-torque starter
Fitting a one-wire alternator
Changing the coolant hoses
Rewrapped wiring harness
Installed replacement exhaust system
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. Work under current ownership has included replacing the driveshaft in addition to changing the transmission housing seal and the clutch cylinders.
A composite image of identification markings on the car is included. The chassis plate in the engine bay is missing.
