This 1970 Jaguar XKE Series II coupe was built in December 1969 and shipped to New York later that month. The 4.2-liter inline-six, four-speed manual transmission, limited-slip differential, suspension, and brakes were rebuilt under prior ownership in Maryland. The seller purchased the car in 2005, and subsequent refurbishment work involved repainting the vehicle in blue and retrimming the interior in red leather. The car is fitted with Series I–style triple SU carburetors, intake manifold, and smooth polished cam covers as well as Iskenderian camshafts, PerTronix electronic ignition, a stainless-steel exhaust system, 15″ wire wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, Koni shocks, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, seatbelts, and a Sanyo AM/FM/cassette stereo. This XKE coupe is now offered at no reserve with a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, service records dating back to the 1980s, removed air-conditioning components and other spare and removed parts, and a clean Florida title in the seller’s name.
Finished from the factory in Regency Red, the car was repainted in blue in 2010, and the chrome has been replated, according to the seller. Exterior details include wraparound chrome bumpers, bright trim, a louvered clamshell hood, a driver-side mirror, and dual polished exhaust outlets.
Chrome-finished 15″ wire wheels are secured by Series I two-eared knock-offs and are mounted with Pirelli Scorpion tires measuring 205/75. The four-wheel disc brakes were overhauled by the previous owner by replacing or rebuilding the calipers, rotors, and cylinders. The suspension has been updated with Koni shocks as well as replacement bushings and ball joints. The seller notes that the control arms have been replated, the steering rack was rebuilt, and the wheel hubs were rebuilt.
The cabin was retrimmed in red leather sourced from Muncie Imports & Classics of Muncie, Indiana, under current ownership, and the door cards and headliner also were redone. Interior appointments include a Sanyo AM/FM/cassette stereo, seatbelts, a passenger-side grab handle, and a locking glovebox. The air-conditioning components—except for the under-dash unit—have been removed but will accompany the vehicle.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 5k-rpm redline as well as an analog clock and gauges for battery voltage, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 78k miles, less than 10 of which were added under current ownership.
The 4.2-liter inline-six was rebuilt under previous ownership. The engine is fitted with triple SU carburetors and the corresponding intake manifold, air cleaner, and plenum that were used on the Series I XKE. SI-style smooth polished cam covers also have been installed. Work performed during the engine rebuild involved resurfacing the cylinder head, regrinding the Iskenderian mild camshafts, and replacing the bearings, rings, and valves as well as the wiring loom and the alternator. The distributor has been updated with PerTronix electronic ignition. The ceramic exhaust headers were recoated, and a stainless-steel exhaust system is installed.
The four-speed manual transmission was rebuilt under prior ownership with replacement synchros and bearings, and the limited-slip differential was rebuilt with replacement parts. The clutch, pressure plate, and throw-out bearing also were replaced.
The Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate lists the original colors and component numbers along with manufacture on December 9, 1969, and dispatch to New York. Spare and removed parts that will convey with the vehicle are said to include air-conditioning components, an extra rear hatch, Zenith carburetors and intake manifold, and several boxes of smaller parts.
