Lot #229972
This 1969 Jaguar XKE Series II coupe was purchased new by the owner. It is powered by a 4.2-liter inline-six linked with a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. Finished in silver over black leather, the car is equipped with a louvered clamshell hood, four-wheel disc brakes, 15″ wire wheels, a heater, and an AM/FM radio. This XKE coupe is now offered by the seller on behalf of the owner with service records and a clean California title in the owner’s name.
The car is finished in silver and was repainted in 1993. Exterior equipment includes sealed-beam open headlights, a driver-side mirror, wraparound chrome bumpers, bright trim, a louvered clamshell hood, and dual exhaust outlets.
The 15″ wire wheels are secured by lobed knock-off nuts and were mounted with 185-series Vredestein Sprint Classic tires in 2014. Braking is provided by four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rear rotors. The brake booster, master cylinder, and front and rear hoses were replaced in 2010.
The cabin features bucket seats upholstered in black leather along with a color-coordinated center console, door panels, and carpets. Interior appointments include an AM/FM radio, a locking glovebox, and a heater. The leather seats were restored in 2000, and the rearview mirror was replaced in 2022.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel was installed in 1996 and frames Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 5k-rpm redline as well as an analog clock and gauges for voltage, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 57k miles and has rolled over. The owner notes that they have driven the car around 157k miles.
The 4.2-liter inline-six was factory equipped with dual Zenith-Stromberg carburetors and rated at 246 horsepower and 263 lb-ft of torque when new. The water pump was rebuilt in 1994, and the fuel pump, ignition warning control unit, and carburetors were addressed in 1998. Work in 2000 included rebuilding the alternator and replacing the motor mounts, coolant hoses, and intake manifold gasket. Rodent damage necessitated the replacement of the heater hoses and spark plug wires in 2005. The ignition distributor and coil were replaced in 2014, and the fuel pump was replaced in June 2019. Service in February 2020 involved replacing the fan belts as well as the lower hose and pipe. The oil was changed in March 2024.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The muffler was replaced in 1995. The clutch, clutch disc, clutch cover, two bearings, and a driveshaft u-joint were replaced in 2000, at which time the transmission was resealed. The clutch master cylinder was replaced in 2011, and the clutch slave cylinder was replaced in August 2022.
