This 1966 Jaguar XKE Series I 2+2 coupe is said to have been acquired new by the current owner’s father through a dealership in Texas and has since remained under the care of the family in New Mexico. A 2015 refurbishment by Classic Showcase of Oceanside, California is noted to have involved a repaint in Opalescent Golden Sand as well as interior and engine work. The car is powered by a 4.2-liter inline-six fitted with triple SU carburetors that is linked to a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. It rides on 15″ wire-spoke wheels and is equipped with a louvered clamshell hood, enclosed headlights, and wraparound chrome bumpers with overriders. Inside, 2+2 seating trimmed in light tan leather is accompanied by a wood-rimmed steering wheel and a Becker radio. This XKE Series I 2+2 coupe is now offered on dealer consignment in Colorado with a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate and a New Mexico title.
Series I E-Types were equipped with covered headlights as well as taillights mounted above the rear bumpers. Compared to the contemporary coupe, the 2+2 version featured a lengthened wheelbase and increased roof height to accommodate a pair of rear seats.
This example is said to have been repainted in Opalescent Golden Sand as part of the aforementioned 2015 refurbishment. Further details include a louvered clamshell hood, a driver-side mirror, pop-out rear side glass, a heated rear window, dual central exhaust outlets, and wraparound chrome bumpers with overriders.
The 15″ wire wheels are secured by two-eared knock-offs and are mounted with 185-width Michelin XVS tires. The car rides on a four-wheel independent suspension and features four-wheel disc brakes with inboard-mounted rear units.
The refreshed 2+2 cabin features seats upholstered in light tan leather along with color-coordinated center console, door panels, and carpets. The dash is trimmed in black vinyl, and further details include a Becker Europa TR radio as well as a heater, a lockable glovebox, and hand-crank door windows.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames a Smiths 160-mph speedometer and 6k-rpm tachometer, while auxiliary gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and amperage are located in the center of the dashboard. The five-digit odometer shows 49k miles, and the current New Mexico title lists a 141k-mile odometer reading. Total mileage is unknown.
The 4.2-liter inline-six was factory equipped with triple SU carburetors and rated at 265 horsepower and 283 lb-ft of torque when new. The engine was reportedly rebuilt as part of the aforementioned 2015 refurbishment.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a full-synchromesh four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential.
The Jaguar Heritage Trust Production Record Trace certificate shows the original colors and drivetrain numbers, and it also documents that the car was built on August 18, 1966, and was dispatched to New York on September 19.
A composite image of identification markings from around the car is shown above. The chassis stamping near the right-front wheel is not visible.
