By 1977 this car needed a total body rebuild, almost everything was done. By 1980 it was MOT'ed and the mileage shown as 85,000 miles. The car was off the road again until about 1997, when a mechanical rebuild was carried out by a well known Jaguar specialist. By 2006 the MOT showed a mileage of 93,000.

    Auction description:
Dating from 1967, this particular car was treated to a full body restoration by renowned Jaguar historians Philip Porter and Paul Skilleter in the late 1970s. The car was then thoroughly injected with Waxoil and put into storage until 1997 when it received a second restoration, this time to the mechanical parts, by Derek Watson Jaguars. Some 10,000 was spent on a host of mechanical improvements including: a full rebuild of the original engine; uprated brakes; Kenlowe fan; new header tank; rebuilt suspension; electronic ignition; uprated alternator and full stainless steel exhaust system. In the current ownership for the last two years, the car is said to drive beautifully with excellent oil pressure when hot (40psi), even at three-figure speeds on the motorway. The bodywork is said to be in excellent condition with good panel fit and excellent chromework. The original black leather interior is nicely patinated and has recently had a Motalita steering wheel fitted. The rear brakes were also rebuilt in 2007 and a JVC CD player with MP3 USB port has been installed. The car comes with a large history file from new including many bills and photos showing the work carried out, an older green log book, modern V5C and a Heritage Certificate. Currently taxed and MOTd, it is due to be driven 80 miles to the saleroom and will be ready for its new owner to drive away today.

Car listed as sold in 2021 at:

    collectingcars.com/for-sale/1967-jaguar-e-type-series-1-4-2-2-2

    1967 JAGUAR E-TYPE SERIES 1 4.2 2+2

    97,163 miles LHDmanual

    Athens, Greece

    Exterior Blue

    Interior Red

A wonderful example of the famously beautiful classic British sports car, benefitting from an engine rebuild and a full bare-metal respray.

Under the curvaceous long bonnet is the car’s original 4.2-litre straight-six engine, which drives the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission.

This Series 1 E-Type 2+2 was originally delivered to an address in Flintshire, UK wearing the number plate ‘ODM 780E’. The car is now located in Athens, Greece.

    Equipment and features

As shown by its Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust production record certificate, this E-Type was originally finished with Cream paintwork over a black interior, but it was fully resprayed in dark blue during its restoration in the late 1970s, and the cabin has been retrimmed in red leather.

The car was treated to another sizeable restoration in the late 1990s by Derek Watson Jaguar, where the engine was rebuilt, the brakes upgraded, the suspension rebuilt, and a new header tank and electronic cooling fan were fitted.

This car features a replacement Motolita steering wheel which fits the interior nicely.

An uprated Kenlowe cooling fan has also been installed, along with electronic ignition.

The car rides on 15-inch wire wheels, fitted with Avon tyres which all display cracking.

Accompanying the car is the wheel bolt spanner and a large selection of spares ,as well as the original UK number plates. Also present are the original sales and service booklets, the supplementary maintenance booklet, over 100 invoices for maintenance and restoration, and a photographic documentation of the more recent restoration works.

Also present is the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate.

    Condition

The car’s dark blue paintwork is described by the vendor as being in excellent order. As previously mentioned, the car was resprayed in the late 90s, and the finish has remained in good condition since. There are a few minor stone chips and some hazing present, but overall the finish is very presentable, and would likely respond well to a thorough machine polish.

The glass, chrome trims and wire wheels are all believed to be entirely original and present in remarkable order given the age of the vehicle.

Inside, the interior trim items are also assumed to be original, and the retrimmed red leather upholstery presents impeccably well. Some of the dashboard switchgear is showing more patination, but generally the interior of the car is very smart.

There are no known electrical or mechanical faults.

The car was last inspected for roadworthiness in 2015, with no reported advisories.

    Service history

This E-Type was last serviced in early 2019, when Classic Cars of Greece changed the engine oil and filter.

The vendor reports that the car has had annual fluid changes during their three-year ownership of the car, and that it has been very well looked after by Classic Cars of Greece since 2009.

There are also rafts of invoices for previous work provided with the car.
