Car listed on EBay:

cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll

Description (revised)

1968 JAGUAR XKE 1 1/2 COUPE FAC. AC

Miles: 83000 Doors: 2 doors

Transmission: Manual Interior: Gray

Engine: 6 - Cyl. Year: 1968

VIN Number: 1E35500 Exterior: Blue

1968 Jaguar XKE Series 1 1/2 coupe, factory air

Failing eyesight forces sale of my beloved Jaguar. Picked up at the factory in Coventry, England. According to the factory door man, Bernie Schwartz (Tony Curtis) picked up his E type two weeks prior and went on his way to star in a racing movie in Italy.

The car is in concourse condition with twelve trophies and all correspondence with factory prior to delivery is included and also the factory "Repair Manual"

In 1999 at the 16th annual "British Car and Motorcycle Fest" in Memphis the car won 1st place and also "Fest Favorite Jaguar" trophies. In 2002 the car won 1st place in "Senior Preservation" at the 44th annual Auto Fair and Swap meet at the Museum of Automobiles at Petit Jean Mountain in Arkansas. (see pictures below)

The car is in my garage in concourse condition. Original paint except for bonnet.

The brake calipers, brake master and slave cylinder, clutch master and slave cylinder have been relined in stainless steel and silicone brake fluid installed. At 66,000 the engine was completely overhauled.

Although this was the first year the factory installed an air conditioner in the E type the reciprocating compressor was replaced by a rotary compressor for increased performance and smoothness.

The only damage is on the right rear panel just under the bumper, there is a small dent. (see photo) You have to look up under the bumper to see it. There is no paint missing, it is just a small dent.

Vehicle is a 1 of 1 car. Vehicle was ordered from a dealer in Florida and delivery taken at the factory in Coventry. It was special order car painted Mercedes Horizon blue, to my knowledge the only documented Jaguar to have been painted in Coventry a Mercedes paint code (Fully Documented). The car was owned by Bob Simek until purchase by me in 2004 and I have owned it ever since work done is highly documented including clutch, head refresh, alternator conversion. Hood was painted months after the car was purchased when his wife hit a parking cement bar. Minimal damage but he repaired and painted it. No pictures of that damage I recently repainted the hood as it was starting to chip off to the metal and the color match was never that great. The car also was chipping on the rear passenger side below the bumper line so I repainted it at the same time as the hood in April of this year The rest of the paint is original. Never any rust always garaged. A solid driver! Currently has 97000 mile

Straight good driving car special ordered and delivered in Coventry. Extensive pictures and documents to prove Original order form included 307 rear gearing so is an honest 150 MPH car. Factory Air conditioning, full synchro 4 speed always garaged

Original leather interior in exceptional shape All lights, switches and gauges work except for clock.

Rugs are in fair to good shape. Head liner in good shape. no dash cracks, steering wheel good shape. All glass in good shape. Showing proper patina

Mileage

This car was a driver and enjoyed by both owners. Always maintained to drive. Bob(the first owner) and myself drove it 2700 miles from Hot Springs Arkansas to Red Deer Alberta in 2004. The car is highly documented and I am confident of the mileage

Wheels are tight and true tires are dated coded 2004 so could be updated but showing no evidence of deterioration

Brakes are all 75% or better, fluids have been changed. Brakes straight and true.

Car now on BaT

bringatrailer.com/listing/1968-jaguar-xke-series-1-5-coupe-4-2/

Auction description:

Seller: rlhug1954

Location: Raleigh, North Carolina

Chassis: 1E35500

531 Miles Shown on Rolled Odometer

4.2-Liter Inline-Six

Four-Speed Manual Transmission

Mercedes-Benz Horizon Blue

Gray Leather Upholstery

15" Knock-Off Wire Wheels

Triple Carburetors

Stainless Steel Exhaust System

Original Purchase Correspondence

Private Party or Dealer: Private Party

Lot #215651

This 1968 Jaguar XKE Series 1.5 coupe was special-ordered in Mercedes-Benz Horizon Blue and was acquired by the seller, its second owner, in 2004. The car is powered by a 4.2-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Service since 2020 has included rebuilding the rear differential, installing a replacement clutch, reworking the cylinder head, and fitting triple SU carburetors and a 123ignition programmable distributor. This XKE is now offered with original purchase documents, service records, tools, spare parts, and a clean North Carolina title in the seller’s name.

The car was special-ordered in Mercedes-Benz Horizon Blue, and the first owner took delivery at the Jaguar factory in Coventry, England, in June 1968. The car was then driven in Europe before being shipped to Florida and was later registered in Arkansas. The seller bought the car in 2004 and subsequently drove it on several long-distance road trips before relocating it to North Carolina in 2022.

The seller notes that the hood and a section of the right quarter panel were repainted in April 2022 and covered with paint protection film. Equipment includes sealed-beam open headlights, a louvered clamshell hood, and wraparound chrome bumpers. Blemishes are noted on the roof and cowl, and the rear window chrome trim is not installed but is included in the sale.

The 15″ wire wheels measure 6.5″ in width and were mounted with 205/70 Bridgestone Ecopia EP422 Plus tires in 2022. The car is equipped with power-assisted four-wheel disc brakes with inboard-mounted rear rotors. Uninstalled four-piston front calipers and spare rotors are included in the sale. The rear shocks were replaced in 2022.

The bucket seats are upholstered in gray leather. The car is equipped with air conditioning and an AM/FM radio. The door seals were replaced in 2020. The seller notes that the air conditioning belt is not installed and the system requires service. The clock is inoperative.

The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames a Smiths 160-mph speedometer and a 6k-rpm tachometer. The five-digit odometer shows approximately 531 miles and has rolled over. The seller notes that the speedometer needle bounces and that they have added approximately 25k miles under their ownership.

The 4.2-liter inline-six was modified under previous ownership with lower-compression pistons. Service and modifications since 2020 include:

Reworking the cylinder head to address a coolant weep

Installing triple SU carburetors

Installing a 123-series programmable Bluetooth distributor

Replacing the exhaust manifolds

Installing a Delco alternator

Engine stamping 7E17279-9 corresponds to the number listed on the chassis plate.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a full-synchromesh four-speed manual transmission and a 3.07:1 rear end. The clutch was replaced in 2020, and the differential was rebuilt in 2022. A stainless-steel exhaust system was also installed in 2022.

The original purchase correspondence is included in the sale in addition to an assortment of spare parts.
