1966 Jaguar E-Type XKE FHC (Fixed Head Coupe) 4.2L for sale! Motorcar Classics is pleased to offer this stunning Jaguar E-Type presented in Opalescent Silver Gray with Red interior. This 1966 Series 1 has undergone a complete restoration to return it to original factory condition. Every effort has been made to ensure accuracy and authenticity for its year. As such, the car operates perfectly and is a joy to drive. Originally a French Export vehicle, the speedometer tracks distance in kilometers not miles and the gauge reads in Km/h. This vehicle has been restored to the exacting condition it would have been when it left Coventry. For example, the vehicle would have received yellow headlight bulbs and Pirelli tires once it was processed in France but since the restoration was being done to factory standard, these elements were kept as they would have left England. Little is known of the car's history after its first owner but the vehicle was purchased in 1980 where it remained with the same owner until the restoration. Mileage is noted to be accurate as the vehicle was disassembled in the 80's and shelved for the majority of the last 40 years. This example is fully numbers matching with rare color combo Opalescent Silver Gray with Red Interior. What we would consider a Concours level restoration which has been meticulously completed on this vehicle. Included with this car is the French Import Data Tag removed from the engine bay firewall but kept with the vehicle for historic purposes, original warranty card noting the first owner and the Delacroix dealer information, all Tri-Plex glass, perfectly matched battleship-gray/green paint on radiator support rails. We would consider this XKE concours ready and it has all necessary accessories required for showing including: Complete tool kit, factory jack, factory hammer, front license plate mounting kit (needs to be shown with car since front plate is not mounted) and the original owner's manual and parts catalog all included with vehicle.

ASKING PRICE $269,900

This 1966 Jaguar XKE Series I coupe was built on August 20, 1965 and delivered new to France. The car underwent a restoration after being acquired by the seller in 2021, with work that totaled over $108k for parts and labor and included a repaint, a reupholstered interior, rebuilds of the engine and transmission, and replacement of the wheels, exhaust system, and suspension components. It is powered by a 4.2-liter inline-six linked to a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential and is finished in Opalescent Silver Gray over red leather. The car is equipped with enclosed headlights, triple SU carburetors, 15″ wire-spoke wheels, power-assisted disc brakes, triple windshield wipers, and an AM/FM radio. This XKE Series I coupe is now offered with a Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate, a tool kit, restoration and service records, and a clean California title in the seller’s name.

This example came finished from the factory in Opalescent Silver Gray and received a bare-metal repaint following the completion of body repairs during the restoration in 2023. A replacement hood was also installed at that time, while the seller notes that the front crossmember was replaced some time ago.

The 15″ wire wheels are secured by two-eared knock-offs and are mounted with 185VR15 Vredestein Classic tires. Braking is provided by four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rear rotors. The brakes and suspension were overhauled during the restoration.

The cabin was reupholstered in red leather using a Major Interior Trim Kit from BAS Ltd./Heritage Upholstery of Palm Springs. Additional replacement components included the glovebox insert, seat back foams, lumbar straps, sun visors, door panel armrests, rear door lock and hinge covers, and interior rubber seals. Appointments include black vinyl dash trim, an AM/FM radio, and a heater.

The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames a Smiths 260-km/h speedometer and 6k-rpm tachometer, while auxiliary gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and amperage are located in the center of the dashboard. The five-digit odometer shows 68k kilometers (~42k miles), approximately 200 of which were added under current ownership.

The 4.2-liter inline-six features triple SU carburetors and was factory rated at 265 horsepower and 283 lb-ft of torque. The engine was reportedly rebuilt during the restoration and the cooling system was overhauled.

The cylinder head stamp reads 7E4811-8, and a corresponding number is stamped on the block and shown on the Heritage Trust certificate.

Power is routed to the rear wheels through a full-synchromesh four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The transmission was reportedly rebuilt during the restoration and a replacement exhaust system installed.

The Jaguar Heritage Trust Production Record Trace certificate shows the original colors and drivetrain numbers as well as the build and dispatch dates.

A summary provided by the seller details the acquisition, parts, and labor costs for the restoration, with a total of $174,525.26.
