This 1968 Jaguar XKE Series 1.5 roadster has remained in the same family since the 1970s, when it was purchased by the seller’s uncle. Acquired by the seller in 2010 as a disassembled project, the car subsequently underwent mechanical refurbishment work, including a rebuild of its 4.2-liter inline-six with installation of an early Series I cylinder head and triple SU carburetors as well as a rebuild of the differential. The car is finished in blue over blue upholstery with a black soft top. Equipment includes Series I-style covered headlights, 15″ wire-spoke wheels, a four-speed manual transmission, and power-assisted four-wheel disc brakes. Additional work in 2025 included floor repairs, replacement of the torsion bars, installation of adjustable shock absorbers, and revisions to the audio system. This XKE roadster is now offered with tools, a top boot, and Alabama registration in the seller’s name.
The car was refinished in blue in the 1970s, and reportedly came from the factory in red. Exterior details include a black soft top, Series I-style glass-covered headlights, a louvered clamshell hood, wraparound chrome bumpers, dual bullet-style mirrors, triple windshield wipers, and dual exhaust outlets. Paint meter readings are provided in the photo gallery. The high beams are currently inoperative.
The 15″ wire-spoke wheels are secured by two-eared knock-offs and mounted with Michelin Defender Green X tires. The torsion bars were replaced and adjustable shocks were fitted in 2025. Braking is provided by power-assisted four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rear rotors.
The cabin features blue-upholstered bucket seats, wood-rimmed Moto-Lita steering wheel, and a dashboard fitted with early-style toggle switches. Audio upgrades include a Bluetooth-capable JVC stereo, Kicker speakers, and Rockford Fosgate amplifier mounted in the trunk. The seller tells us that in 2025, sections of rust were cut from the floors and repaired, and the repaired areas were then treated with a rust inhibitor and sound-deadening insulation.
Smiths instrumentation consists of a 160-mph speedometer and 6,000-rpm tachometer, along with auxiliary gauges displaying coolant temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and amperage. The five-digit odometer was rebuilt under current ownership and now displays approximately 1,500 miles. The seller estimates that approximately 10k miles have been driven during his ownership. Total mileage is unknown.
The 4.2-liter inline-six was reportedly rebuilt circa 2012 and is fitted with a early Series I cylinder head and triple SU carburetors.
Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a fully synchronized four-speed manual transmission. The seller reports that the differential was also rebuilt in 2012.
The car is being sold on its Alabama registration, which serves as an ownership document in Alabama and lists the VIN as “1E7245” as opposed to 1E17245.
