The Roadster offered here comes from the second owner, who has kept possession of the vehicle for 34 years. With just 42,000 original miles, the vehicle has recently been treated to a mechanical refurbishment, which included a brake overhaul, a rebuild of the top-end with new valves, a complete engine tune, and the installation of an electronic ignition. The car shines in Carmen Red over Black Leather interior, and is shod in new chrome wire wheels with fresh rubber.

The car is in top notch mechanical condition, and delivers an absolute thrill on the road. This Series 1.5 E-Type is an excellent automobile for anyone seeking a usable classic, and it is a splendid example of one of the finest Jaguars to leave the factory in Coventry.

This 1968 Jaguar XKE is a Series 1.5 roadster that was built on March 6, 1968 and distributed to the US through Jaguar Cars of New York. The car is said to have remained with its original owner for much of its life and was acquired by the seller in 2015. It is finished in red over black leather and powered by a numbers-matching 4.2-liter inline-six fitted with triple SU carburetors and paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes a black soft top, a rear luggage rack, a cassette radio, four-wheel disc brakes, and polished 15” knock-off wire wheels. Work during current ownership has reportedly included replacement of the brake master cylinder, water pump, front calipers, rear suspension mounts, and ball joints. This XKE roadster is being offered with a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, a spare exhaust system, the removed dual carburetors, service records from current ownership, and previous New York registration in the seller’s name.

Series 1.5 XKEs featured exposed headlights shared with Series II cars but retained Series I features such as a small front grille opening, turn signals mounted above the front bumper, and taillights mounted above the split rear bumper. This example was factory-finished in Carmen Red and is said to have undergone a repaint some time in the 1990s. Rust repair was more recently performed in 2019 around the headlights, hood mounts, and hood mounting diaphragm per the seller.

Polished 15” wire wheels are secured with knock-off spinners and mounted with 185/65 Goodyear Assurance rubber. The front tires and one wheel were replaced during current ownership, and repairs were performed in the inner front wheel wells. The brake system features four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rears, and additional work noted by the seller included replacement of the brake master cylinder and servo, front brake calipers, upper and lower ball joints, and rear suspension mounts.

The cabin features bucket seats upholstered in black leather along with a matching dashboard, door panels, and carpets. Equipment includes a central arm rest, a cassette radio, analog clock, and rocker switches for vehicle functions. Repairs to the under-dash wiring, pedal box, and heater fan wiring were performed in 2019.

A leather-wrapped three-spoke steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer and a 6k-rpm tachometer, along with auxiliary gauges mounted in the center stack. The five-digit odometer shows just under 43k miles, around 1k of which have been added by the seller over the last six years. Total mileage is unknown.

The 4.2-liter DOHC inline-six was fitted with triple SU carburetors during current ownership. A tune-up was performed in 2019, the engine stabilizer mount on the firewall was repaired, and the intake manifold gasket, water pump, thermostat housing, camshaft cover gaskets, and coolant hoses were replaced per the seller. A quad-outlet exhaust is currently installed, and a spare sports exhaust system, as well as the removed dual carburetors, will accompany the vehicle.

Engine block stamping number 7E16339-9 shown above matches the number displayed on the Heritage Trust certificate and dataplate.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission.

The Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate lists the vehicle’s original colors, powertrain numbers, and production date. The car has not been registered since 2018.

    Lot #219523

This 1968 Jaguar XKE is a Series 1.5 roadster that was built on March 6, 1968, and distributed to the United States through Jaguar Cars of New York, and the car was purchased by the current owner on BaT in August 2021. Finished in red over black leather, the vehicle is powered by a 4.2-liter inline-six fitted with triple SU carburetors and paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes a black soft top, a top boot, a cassette stereo, four-wheel disc brakes, and 15” knock-off wire wheels. Work performed current ownership included removing a luggage rack and bumper guards, repairing the radio and the speedometer, rebuilding the carburetors, resealing the transmission, and also replacing the radiator fans, clutch, shocks, tires, and exhaust system. This XKE is now offered by the seller on behalf of the owner with a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, a spare exhaust system, removed carburetors and other parts, and a Texas title in the owner’s name.

This example was finished from the factory in Carmen Red and is said to have undergone a repaint during the 1990s. Rust repair was more recently performed in 2019 around the headlights, hood mounts, and hood-mounting diaphragm. The center sections of the front and rear bumpers were removed under current ownership and so was a luggage rack, and those removed items are included in the sale. A previously installed quad-exit exhaust system has been replaced by a setup with twin tailpipes. Bubbling is noted around the rear license-plate frame, and dents are evident on the deck lid.

Chrome-finished 15″ wire wheels are secured by rounded knock-offs and are mounted with Dunlop radial tires that were replaced under current ownership. The braking system features four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rears. The front and rear shocks were replaced in February 2025.

The cabin features bucket seats upholstered in black leather along with a matching dashboard, door panels, and carpeting. Equipment includes a central armrest, a cassette stereo, a clock, and rocker switches for vehicle functions. The radio was repaired in 2021.

A leather-wrapped three-spoke steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer and a 6k-rpm tachometer, with auxiliary gauges located in the center stack. The five-digit odometer shows 43k miles, approximately 200 of which have been added under current ownership. The speedometer was repaired in 2021, and true mileage is unknown.

The 4.2-liter inline-six has been fitted with triple SU carburetors. The radiator fans were replaced in 2021, the carburetors were rebuilt and oil leaks were repaired in 2024, and the timing was adjusted in February 2025.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. The gearbox was resealed and the clutch was replaced in 2021.

Various spare and removed parts will accompany the vehicle.

The car’s chassis number is 1E17197, whereas the Texas title adds a zero within that sequence, citing 1E017197 as the VIN.
