Car to be at auction 5/24
online.doningtonauctions.com.au/m/lot-details/index/catalog/157/lot/44045/1965-J ...
Auction description:
Chassis number: 1E1223
Engine number: 7E3762-9
Part of a sizeable Queensland collection of iconic British cars, this immaculate 1965 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 roadster is coming out of 36 years of continuous ownership.
Presented in bright red with a black soft top roof, over beige leather trim with matching carpets, sitting on chromed wire wheels, this E-Type is in superb condition throughout – not surprising given it has been professionally restored twice.
The Series 1 roadster was partially restored by Rolscar and then finished by its enthusiast owner, only to then get caught in the devastating Brisbane floods of 2011 while in storage at an offsite location. As a result, it underwent an insurance-funded second full restoration by OzRods.
Today it presents beautifully, superbly detailed, and as it left the factory, save for a kilometre speedo (indicating 60,527km) and a non-period Kenwood CD stereo.
It also comes with a large history file complete with restoration photographs, various documentation, and copious receipts.
You’ll travel a long way to find a such a nice Series 1 4.2 Litre E-Type roadster with the added attraction of the all synchromesh gearbox.

Advertised on carsales.com.au on 16 October 2025 asking AUD$359,980. The car is in Sydney, NSW. Selling dealer’s description (edited) follows: "Matching numbers. Heritage Certificate. According to historical documents this E-Type was first registered in South Australia in 1967. It changed hands in 1978 and moved to New South Wales, before being sold again in 1988 and transported to Queensland. A full restoration commenced in 1994, supported by detailed documentation and invoices and a collection of photographs documenting the process. The car remained with the same owner for more than three decades before being offered at auction in May 2024. It was acquired by a collector of rare classic vehicles who has now traded for a rarer investment classic".
