This 1967 Jaguar XKE Series I roadster was purchased by the current owner in 1982 from an Air Force officer stationed at Luke Air Force Base in Arizona, and it is said to have remained off the road in storage since 1985. It is a non-running project that is equipped with a 4.2-liter inline-six, four-speed manual transmission, limited-slip differential, black convertible top, 15″ wire wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, an aftermarket radio, and an 8-track player. This Series I XKE project is now offered on dealer consignment in Washington with a Jaguar Heritage Trust Production Record Trace certificate, spare parts, and a clean Texas title.
Series I XKEs were equipped with covered headlights and taillights mounted above the chrome rear bumpers. This example left the factory in Opalescent Golden Sand, and it was repainted in white under previous ownership. Exterior features include a black convertible top, a louvered clamshell hood, wraparound chrome bumpers, triple windshield wipers, and dual exhaust outlets. The paint is flaking, the soft top headliner is deteriorating, the rubber components have perished, and dents are noted on the hood and the right side of the rear valance.
The 15″ wire wheels are secured by two-eared knock-off spinners and are mounted with 185-section Michelin X radial tires, and a bias-ply spare is located in the trunk. The car is equipped with four-wheel disc brakes, though the brake, clutch, and accelerator pedals are seized. The selling dealer notes that the car rolls and turns.
The cabin features bucket seats upholstered in black leather along with a color-coordinated center console, door panels, and carpets. Interior appointments include black vinyl dash trim, a sliding rearview mirror, an aftermarket Sanyo AM/FM cassette player, an under-dash equalizer, and a Sanyo 8-track player and Pioneer speakers mounted in the rear bulkhead. Mildew is visible on the convertible top frame and interior surfaces.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames a Smiths 160-mph speedometer and a 6k-rpm tachometer, while auxiliary gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and amperage are located in the center of the dashboard. The five-digit odometer shows 40k miles.
The 4.2-liter inline-six features triple SU carburetors and was factory rated at 265 horsepower and 283 lb-ft of torque. The seller notes that the engine turns over but does not run, and the carburetor plungers are stuck.
The cylinder head stamp reads 7E7250-9, which matches the engine block, the number listed on the chassis plate, and the number on the Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate.
The car is equipped with a full-synchromesh four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential.
The Jaguar Heritage Trust Production Record Trace certificate lists the factory colors and identification numbers as well as a dispatch date of January 5, 1966.
Spare parts accompanying the car include universal joints, weatherstripping, gaskets, and additional components.
