Motor City 2016, Lot 159
1965 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 4.2-Litre Roadster Add to Favorites
Sold $159,500 USD
Chassis No. 1E 10525
Engine No. 7E 2459-9
Gearbox No. EJ 1568
The car on offer is as close to a new 1965 E-Type Roadster as could be imagined. As acquired by the consignor, the body tub sheet metal had been replaced, with the exception of the bulkheads and the bonnet section, boot lid, and inner door panels, which are believed to be original. The E-Type was then subject to an extensive restoration to outstanding condition throughout. The car was reportedly a solid 45,000-mile car when acquired in St. Louis in 2006. Muncie Imports prepared the bodywork to factory specifications and repainted the roadster in desirable Silver Blue with a cinnamon leather interior and tan top. The panel fit is exemplary, the chrome plating superior, and all rubber parts have been replaced.
The original engine and drivetrain were rebuilt, with the exception of the gearbox, which was examined and determined to shift perfectly. The suspension was overhauled with new bushings and ball joints. New brakes were fitted, the fuel system and cooling system were overhauled, and all electrical parts were rebuilt or replaced as necessary. This supremely prepared roadster has covered less than 800 miles since restoration. A JDHT Certificate is included, along with the owner’s handbook and a factory jack with storage bag and knock-off hammer.

US Title
Desirable Series 1 roadster with the more powerful 4.2-Liter engine
Believed to be one of fewer than 6,000 Series 1 4.2-Litre left-hand-drive roadsters
Accompanied by JDHT certificate, owner’s handbook, knock-off hammer, and jack with bag
This 1965 E-Type Series 1 4.2-Litre Roadster left the Jaguar factory finished in Opalescent Dark Green with a black top and beige interior. A left-hand-drive example destined for North America, it was distributed through Jaguar Cars New York. While the selling dealer was not recorded, the car’s first owner was listed as Herluf D. Jensen.
Today the E-Type presents nicely, having benefitted from extensive refurbishment under previous ownership. Work reportedly included replacing the body tub sheet metal, with the exception of the bulkheads and the bonnet section, boot lid, and inner door panels. Upon completion of the metalwork, the body was painted in Silver Blue with a cinnamon leather interior and tan top. The interior is nicely appointed with a wood-rimmed steering wheel and an upgraded modern radio unit.
The engine and drivetrain—with the exception of the transmission—were reportedly rebuilt, and the suspension is believed to have been overhauled with new bushings and ball joints. New brakes were also said to have been fitted, the fuel system and cooling system overhauled, and all electrical parts rebuilt or replaced as necessary. In addition to the JDHT Certificate, an owner’s handbook, jack with storage bag, and knock-off hammer are also included.
Sold at $176,000

The 4.2 generation are generally regarded as the best E-Types to actually live with. Theyre not as rare and crazy expensive as the early 3.8s, but have more comfortable seats, more durable interior trim, a torquier engine plus other minor improvements and retain the signature glass-covered headlights and slender secondary lamps.
This was originally a US-delivered car that was given a lengthy and thorough restoration several years ago before residing in the prestigious Alan Jones Collection. Now in private ownership, the car is being offered as an exceptionally sharp example that is show-worthy. The Heritage Certificate assures the original engine & cylinder head numbers and the car is resplendent in popular Opalescent Blue with Beige interior & top. The paint is absolutely spectacular!
We have a thick photographic record of the restoration in progress, showing that it was much more than new paint & leather. The complete electrical system, engine, instruments, brakes & chassis were all restored and the only departure from factory spec is a thick-core aluminum radiator to facilitate actually driving the car. Included is an original jack bag, full tool kit & spare.
NOTE: The car has just received over $8000 in fresh work, including new tires & tubes, full stainless exhaust plus new porcelain headers, new alternator, motor mounts and more. Besides having a beautiful presentation, its also ready for your driving adventures this summer!
