Ebay item 11/23/04
cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll
Current bid $3,850.00 (Reserve not met, 11 bids, 7 days left in auction.

Sellers description:
This car was born Nov. 3, 1969 and imported through New York. The first owner is not known. I have the names of four previous owners besides myself. I purchased the car as a Sunday/weekend car but I enjoyed it so much it became my daily driver. I put 14,000 wonderfully enjoyable miles on it in 2002. The car was never intended as a show car, but still came in "2nd in Class" at the British Car Day Show in Montgomery, AL in September, 2002. During longer car trips the car started using too much oil (one quart per 300 miles) so I made arrangements to have the engine pulled out and refreshened. The car was an automatic from the factory. When I purchased it, it had already been converted to a 4 speed synchro manual. Since the engine was going to be out, I decided to convert the transmission to a 4 speed with OVERDRIVE from a Jaguar Saloon car which is the equivelant of changing the 3.31 rear gears to 2.65 at the flick of a switch, lower highway RPM's, better gas milage and longer engine life. The car was in the shop 15 1/2 months and the entire time was a nightmare. By the time he was through with it, the mechanic had managed to present the car to me in a MUCH worse condition than I had left it with him. it only made it 30 miles away from the shop before the oil pressure started dropping and started to rattle, I had it towed home and has been driven about 50 miles since the work was done. The engine was assembled incorrectly and dirty and will have to be completely rebuilt. The overdrive unit was sent to California for a rebuild before installation. It was also done incorrectly and needs new linings. It will not back up uphill and free wheels on deceleration. I have since found a more knowledgable and reputable source for repair of this problem. There are numerous paint chips from the mechanic's treatment, the left sill has been crushed by their hoist, it only shows from underneath but it will need attention. Both sills had previously been replaced due to rust. The paint looks very shiny, but it will need to be repainted because of all the dings and chips, it is painted in lacquer which is almost impossible to find now. The mechanics claim no responsibility for their shoddy work. Legal recourse would be too slow and agonizing and expensive. I cannot afford to have it built again and I have lost my storage place to hurricane Ivan. The bad guys have won. I was going to part the car out but I decided to try this way instead to see if the car can enjoy the open road again with a new owner. This car stands out even in a group of other E-types, As you can see, the car is done in the style of Ecurie Ecosse race cars of the past. The cylinder head has been ported and has new exhaust valves, guides, seals, and valve job. Exhaust studs, washers, and nuts are stainless steel. It has been match ported to the triple intake manifold with Weber 45 dcoe carburetors specially jetted for the E-Type and stainless braided fuel line and billet linkage purchased from Classic Jaguar, Austin, TX. Custom aluminum air filters match the polished cam covers. Hayward and Scott polished stainless steel exhaust headers with new pipes leading to glasspack center mufflers and 3 year old resonators sound perfect but not too loud, Classic Jaguar alloy flywheel. New clutch, pressure plate, and throw out bearing. Lucas 41207 distributor (20 degrees of advance) with lumenition electronic breakerless ignition, Lucas sportscoil. U joints, brake rotors, pistons, and rear end seals were all replaced on 4/2002. Motor mounts replaced on 4/2001. New otter switch and heater hoses replaced on 7/2002. Steering wheel is a 2 year old Moto-Lita. Windshield is 3 years old. Headliner and sunvisors have been replaced. All door and window rubber seals have been replaced. Radiator was re-cored with one extra row on 2/2003. Ball joints replaced 12/2001. Alternator rebuilt. Radiator fan shroud, and fan motor brackets are powder coated. Oil pressure gauge has been changed to direct pressure (no sending unit to fail) and displays in PSI. Water temperature gauge shows actual temperature in degrees--no electrical sending unit.Volt meter displays in numbers, these are all British gauges, not aftermarket. Replaceable bulb, halogen headlights; very bright, illegal on high beams. Two tone, European taillights. Stainless, braided oil feed line. Polished and machine turned oil pan.Polished crankcase breather, Powder coated transmission mount. New timing chains. New parking brake cable. All dash switches work. Walnut center dash panel and gear shift knob. Blower fan is not factory. It has been upgraded to GM motor and wheel. It blows excellent now. A complete, almost new dark blue carpet set from Original Specification Jaguar Interiors of Muncie Indiana is included but not installed, original owners manual (raggedy), jack in it's pouch (a few holes), the Dunlop D-Type wheels in the pictures were sold here last week, the car now sits on the 6x15 series III wire wheels shown, the 2-eared knockoffs are like new and the federal ones with tool are included as backup, there is no rust in the trunk floor or doors, the right forward footwell has been replaced, there is no spare wheel, the crankshaft is -.010 and must be turned, all bearings must be replaced,

There are no back up lights. The period radio is not connected. I also sold the rear hatch window trim, The clock has never worked. The left inner sill has rust at the seat belt anchor. The passenger door will not lock with the key from the outside. The leather on the driver's seat is dry, cracked, and splitting. Both headrests' foam need replacing. The passenger seat and rear seats are in good condition. I have receipts for all work done, engine number and head match ID plate, If you are looking for your first XKE this is not your car, if you are mechanically inclined and have fooled with Jaguars then this might be your perfect winter project, I would prefer you come and inspect the car or send someone to look at it if possible, I don't want someone getting in over their head.

Additional text from the auction:

Vehicle Condition: Looks beautiful but was murdered by lying crooks posing as mechanics, needs a friend to help him back up on all fours, his nine lives are far from used up.

The right front "bulkhead to sill" panel has rust, a new replacement panel will come with the car. A nice fitting water repellent car cover with storage bag and cable lock is included, also a brand new lockout switch for the overdrive, and the Jaguar heritage parts and service manuals for series I & II 1961-1970 on CD/ROM, and the 2nd place in class wall plaque trophy which has the photograph of the car on it, and assorted bits like the stock center mufflers in good shape and the original exhaust manifolds, original red tailight lenses, rubber floor mats with the growler crest on them, clutch and brake pedal rubbers are recent and the rubber accellerator pedal cover that the factory forgot to make,

Currently has 15 bids to a figure of $5300.00 with 2 days 22 hours left on the auction.

My car went to it's new home in New York, And as of last contact, repair/restoration had not been started, I miss this car terribly !, I am going through withdrawl from lack of alloy to polish and Webers to tune. Also sound depravation.

Current bid $9,000 reserve not met, 13 bids 5 days left in auction. Buy it now price $14,500. Car now in Massachusetts.

Sellers description:
1969 E-type has got a super body on it. It's painted in laquer and the paint from 1 to 10 is about 7. It does have a couple chips in the paint, but for a driver it would be excellent. The headliner is like new. The sun visors are like perfect. There is no rust near the hinge to the bonnet. The trunk area looks real nice as well. The driver's seat shows some wear, but it is very useable. The horn and all the electricals work. The car was a second place winner in 2005. The previous owner had the engine and gearbox rebuilt. It has a new clutch and an aluminum flywheel. The cylinder head has new valves and new valve guides so the car can run on unleaded gas. The previous owner never finished the car off. What I can see that needs be done is to have the carburetors cleaned and rebuilt, the radiator to be flushed with new fluid, all new water hoses. It needs to be generally run through before starting. The clutch seems fine and the brakes seem fine. This is a good candidate for someone who knows about E-type engines that can finish the restoration off.
