    Car at auction on BAT:
    bringatrailer.com/listing/1963-jaguar-xke-roadster/
Current Bid: $3,000 Ends In: 7 days

    Auction description:
This 1963 Jaguar XKE Roadster is a matching-numbers project that was last thought to be on the road in the late 70s. The seller acquired the vehicle a year and a half ago through an acquaintance from a local British car club. Now a partially disassembled roller, its original 3.8L inline-six was supposedly rebuilt some time ago, and the XKE spent the last 10+ years stored at a local repair shop. Rust is present throughout and detailed in the listing below. A salvage Nebraska title was issued due to its current condition, and a number of original parts are included in the sale.

The factory color is believed to be white. Rust is present in the outer rockers, battery box, floors, trunk corner, A-pillars, and around the rear wheels. The top half of the hood is said to be salvageable, but the bottom valence needs replacement. Dents, dings, and rust surround the body, but the inner rockers, bulkheads, and rear of the cockpit are reportedly solid. Framework is damaged in front of the radiator and on the passenger side engine bay.

Both headlights will require new trim rings and covers, while the turn signals and rear lights do not have lenses. Bumpers are intact and the chrome is claimed to be restorable. Factory wire knock-off wheels are retained, and the brake and suspension systems will need entire rebuilds.

A soft top frame is stated to be complete but will need new upholstery. The dash remains in surprisingly good condition with a vinyl instrument panel and all switches and gauges present, though their working condition is unknown. Seats and some of the interior trim comes with the car. Floors are in need of replacement on both the driver's and passenger's side.

The engine number is listed as R-6415-9. Stampings on the head (R-6415-9), transmission (R-E85548JS), and body (R-4161) also match the chassis plate.

The stamping on the engine block also shows R-6415-9.

While the engine is said to have been rebuilt, it is unclear when or where. It wears newer paint and turns freely, and when acquired by the seller it was accompanied by engine gasket boxes missing a significant number of gaskets, valves, and bearings. Three new carb kits are included in the sale. Condition of the clutch, transmission, and rear end is unknown.

A crude patch panel has been welded onto the bottom of the heater box, and the fan motor is frozen. A unit from an MG Midget has been tested and is included in the sale along with the original radiator and header tank. Exhaust manifolds need replacement, and the rest of the exhaust system was not present upon the seller's purchase. Detailed pictures below show the included parts and condition in depth, along with the newly issued salvage title.

The seller trailered the car to the DMV and was issued a salvage title.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
