Ebay item 6/29/10
cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Jaguar-E-Type-1969-Jaguar-XKE-Factory-Air-Manual-and-Wir ...
Opening bid $65,000 reserve not met, no bids yet 5 days left in auction. 54k miles.

Sellers (same as above) description:
This 1969 Jaguar XKE 2+2 has been lovingly restored to be identical to the car that rolled off the assembly line in Coventry, England.

In 1973, our pharmacist started a family and sold the car, with 19,000 miles, to another pharmacy grad who kept the car till 1979 when it was sold to a doctor in Sioux City, Iowa. In 1982 it was traded in to Hoak Motors of Sioux City, which was then a Jaguar franchise. That’s when Tom Brosamle, also of Sioux City, spotted the car on the lot.

Tom had some notoriety as the owner of a stock car racing team in NW Iowa and had a real love for fast cars. Tom has owned the car since 1982 and drove it as a daily driver until 1994. Tom owns an antique business (T and S Antiques) and kept his racing and repair shop in the lower level of the store. He admits to occasionally reaching the Jag’s listed top speed of 150mph and says that when he was driving it regularly it was an incredibly reliable vehicle. Few people know that the 2+2, because it is longer than the coupe, is a better handing machine, but Tom vouches for that. When Tom retired from the racing circuit he also retired the Jag and he parked it in his lower level racing shop and never drove it again. At the time, it had 54,000 miles on the odometer.

First was a complete restoration of the original engine. As you may imagine, it had considerable surface rust on the interior and exterior parts so it has been disassembled and each part refurbished. The cylinders were bored .005 in and new pistons, bearings, oil pump assembly, and gaskets installed. The high compression "C-Type" heads have been rebuilt, new valves installed. Otherwise the engine has all the original parts. Dual Stromberg carburetors were completely overhauled and at final assembly, as set of black porceline headers were installed in place of the stock set (we couldn’t help ourselves there). The photos will show you a beautifully crafted engine installed in an engine compartment where every part has been restored or replaced with Jaguar parts.

The transmission is completely original, the clutch pressure plate is new.

The restoration was done by Cliff Avenue Upholstery and Restoration of Tea, SD, a small town outside of Sioux Falls. The paint has been completely stripped down to bare aluminum and redone in the original color of Signal Red, covered with state of the art clear coat. There were some previous repairs to the body, which were done by Cliff Avenue with aluminum repair technology, eliminating the bondo fixes bringing complete integrity to the tub.

The running gear in the front has new brakes, ball joints, and struts. The steering gear is original, as are the gorgeous wire wheels, which each have over two hours of polishing in them. The rear independent suspension has been completely rebuilt with four new struts and new brakes. The rear end suspension on these cars is truly a work of art.The exhaust system is new.

The interior of the car is completely original. The seats have been reconditioned, but the original leather is in excellent condition. All of the push control signage has been reconditioned and is well readable. The Air Conditioning venting module, glove box, shift knob, steering wheel, and door handles are just part of the list of original parts that make this interior a trip back in time to the sixties.

The original documents that come with the car include the:

"JAGUAR 4.2 ‘E’ TYPE AND 2+2 (LEFT HAND DRIVE CARS ONLY) OPERATING, MAINTENANCE AND SERVICE HANDBOOK"

"JAGUAR OVERSEAS DISTRIBUTORS and DEALERS" DIRECTORY, 23rd Edition, June 1963"

Available upon request: Full set of restoration in process pictures

Gearbox number quoted with "KE" prefix cannot be correct (even though appearing on the ID plate) because the longer gearbox used in 2+2 cars has prefix "KJS" before the number.

Opening bid US $10,000 reserve not met no bids 9 days left in auction, buy it now price $54,000. Same location 54k miles.

Sellers description:
This Jag is for the true enthusiast who enjoys going back in time. This XKE has been restored by a highly reputable restoration shop here in Sioux Falls to a near perfect finish. All the running gear, power plant, electrics, gauges, and A/C are in good running order, with the exception of the speedometer which works, but not perfectly.

Most 2+2 models are automatic, because the whole point of the 2+2 was to add an additional 4 inches to give room for the automatic transmission. This one is one of the 20% that has the 4-speed manual transmission. It also has a beautiful set of wire wheels, A/C, and the right mirror delete.

The car came to the USA in 1969 as a special order to a pharmacist in Des Moines, Iowa. He sold to a couple from Alton, Iowa, to a man who owned a construction company. His wife was a school teacher who drove it to school. I have met them, as they came to visit the car when they found out I had it. She claimed it was the most reliable car she ever owned, quite a statement from an XKE owner. They traded it in on a new Cadillac in the eighties, where it was bought off the Cadillac lot in Sioux City by its next owner, a local antique shop owner and stock car racing team owner.

I originally purchased the car from this stock car racer and antique dealer in Sioux City. He bought the car off the Cadillac lot and used it as an excursion driver for years. One day he parked in his basement garage and just never drove it again, for whatever reason. After 14 years he couldn't justify keeping it. He assured me that it would run, but it didn't, so the entire engine was completely restored and rebuilt, with the addition of some new headers. There is photo documentation of the restoration process. Of course, I couldn't stop there and ended up restoring all the running gear, front and back, as well. The body was completely redone at the same time.

This Jag has only two flaws. It is missing the rear view mirror, and the radio does not work. Good projects for a new owner that wants to show off his ride while doing some sleuthing.
