The first prototype (called E-Type A1) is directly derived from the D-Type which won three times at Le Mans in 1955, 1956 and 1957. Three prototypes will follow, increasingly Grand Touring oriented. The production car loses the aluminum body to return to steel, but retains this “competition” spirit with its cradle independent of the self-supporting shell, its independent wheels or its 4 disc brakes. For the time, it was an incredibly modern design and stunning handling.
