Car to be at auction 1/16
russoandsteele.com/vehicle-details/

Auction description:
1966 Jaguar E Type

Consignment # 5596 #S774 Saturday 9:46PM-10:06PM

Vehicle to be offered for Auction sale WITHOUT RESERVE and SOLD to the highest bidder January 27th - 31st, 2016 at Russo and Steele's 16th Annual Scottsdale Arizona Auction.

This superb late-production 'Series I' specimen of the iconic E-Type is finished in a very attractive period color combination of red over black. This matching numbers E-Type was completely gone through during 2015 and sorted with new genuine components sourced from the UK. Sold new to the famous painter Charles Kassler II of San Diego, California, where it lived all its life as evidenced by its California "Black Plates." This E- Type has led an easy life, never having been abused, raced, or dented. It is straight as an arrow and will be a delightful car to show, take on long drives, participate in car events or collect.

During October 2015, the car was completely stripped to bare metal after hood, hatch, and glass removal, and repainted with Glasurit solvent-based color and clear coat. All rubber components were replaced including windshield gaskets. All chrome has been refinished to the highest standard the industry can produce, and some mouldings were entirely replaced with new items. The car has undergone a complete mechanical renovation, including rebuilding of the 3 SU carbs, ignition, cooling, brakes, and suspension, plus installation of new shocks front and rear. A factory exhaust system was also fitted with new chrome pipes. The interior is completely renovated with leather seats, console, and arm rest, 100% Wilton wool carpeting, and matching vinyl as original.

Riding on 5 new Dayton wire wheels and new Michelin tires, the E-Type features new lights front and rear, along with new badges, chrome trim parts, and outside rear view mirror. The Jaguar retains its factory tool pouch, jack, and all owners' manuals, including the manufacturer's warranty card signed and dated by Charles Kassler II, the famous painter who took delivery from new at British Motor Sales Co. of San Diego, California in 1966. The car remained in his family for 50 years until acquired by its present owner. The restoration was completed during the second 2015 and the vehicle is accompanied by receipts and a recently issued heritage certificate.

This 1966 Jaguar XKE is a Series I coupe that was refurbished under previous ownership and is said to have been registered to a single family before being acquired by the current owner in 2017. The car is finished in red over black leather upholstery and is powered by a 4.2-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Additional equipment includes triple SU carburetors, 15″ wire wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, a side-opening rear hatch, chrome bumpers, and an aftermarket cassette stereo. This E-Type shows 62k miles and is offered by the seller on behalf of the current owner with a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate and a clean Arizona title in the owner’s name.

During the refurbishment, the car is said to have been stripped to bare metal, the badges, chrome trim, side mirror, and windshield gasket were reportedly replaced, and the car was repainted red. Details include dual center-mounted exhaust outlets with chrome finishers along with a side-opening rear hatch, and chrome bumpers with overriders.

Chrome-finished 15″ wire wheels feature two-eared knock-off spinners and are mounted with 185-series Michelin XVS tires. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rear units. Work during the refurbishment is said to have included replacing braking components as well as the wheels, tires, and shocks.

The bucket seats, center console, and armrest were reupholstered in black leather and the carpets are said to have been replaced during the refurbishment. The tuning knob is missing on the aftermarket cassette stereo.

The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation consisting of a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with an inset clock. Gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and amperage are mounted in the center stack. The mechanical odometer shows 62k miles, approximately 500 of which were added under current ownership.

The 4.2-liter DOHC inline-six features triple SU carburetors and was factory rated at 265 horsepower and 283 lb-ft of torque. The seller states the carburetors were replaced and ignition, cooling, and exhaust components were replaced during the refurbishment.

Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission.

The Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate lists a March 24, 1966 manufacture date along with factory colors and serial numbers.

The car number shown above reads 1E32765. The VIN on the current Arizona title is listed as J661E32765.
