This example is beautifully finished in a lovely shade of dark blue and fitted with a saddle leather interior. It was the recipient of a comprehensive, nut-and-bolt restoration by a noted specialist in San Diego, California. The restorer chose dependability and drivability as the
goals for this project, although sacrificing nothing throughout the entire process to present one of the finest fixed head coupes seen at auction in many years.

Mechanically, the matching numbers 4.2 liter engine was rebuilt to factory specifications and calibrated. It was fitted with new pistons, bearings, valves, guides, seats, seals and timing chain. The head was completely rebuilt, as were the carburetors, clutch system and brake systems. The driveshaft was balanced, new suspension was installed, shocks were restored and part of the chassis and many other parts were powder-coated. The
undercarriage was completely rebuilt, new wire harness installed, gas tank restored and epoxy sealed, new aluminum radiator, restored fan, heater system and fuel pump. All electrical components, gauges, knobs, switches were rebuilt, rescreened or replaced. The seat frames were powder-coated, stone guards replaced, new windshield and door glass, new drip panels, new exhaust system and the rear end was completely rebuilt as well as the transmission.

Cosmetically, the body was stripped to bare metal and repaired, as needed, including the body, doors, bonnet and boot, then fitted to the body, epoxy sealed and painted dark blue, color sanded and buffed. New rubber, seals, grommets and gaskets were fitted and the trim
and brightwork was replaced or replated. A new proper interior was installed, carpet panels and seats were all redone in saddle. Overall, the Jaguar is breathtaking and reflects what a no-expense-spared restoration truly is. This E-Type must be seen to be fully appreciated as the exterior blue paint is also extremely impressive. The vendor reports that the E-Type runs and drives as expected and is awaiting its next owner to complete the break-in process. More than a dual-purpose vehicle, whether it is concours or show, this wonderful E-type
will undoubtedly find its place in the winner’s circle under its next owner’s surname.
