Car to be at auction 1/23

www.mecum.com/lots/FL0123-545412/1966-jaguar-e-type-series-i-roadster/

Auction description:

Lot K153.1 Kissimmee 2023 Jan 4-15

Chassis No. 1E12849

Highly original unrestored condition

4.2L DOHC inline 6-cylinder engine

Triple SU sidedraft carburetors

4-speed manual gearbox

Wood-rimmed steering wheel

Solid State AM/FM radio

Smiths instrumentation

Lucas electronic system

Maroon with Black leather interior

15-inch chrome knock-off wire wheels

As a 1966 model this highly original, unrestored, maroon-liveried, left-hand drive example from The Rick Grant III Estate Collection features the glorious full-house triple-SU carb setup from before U.S.-delivered E-types were subdued with power-sapping twin carbs. It also predates the safety bumpers that later imposed on imports. Inside its black leather interior, Chassis No. 1E12849 further features Smiths instrumentation tucked behind a wood-rimmed steering wheel and a Solid State AM/FM radio.

For many, these late Series 1 E-types represents the zenith of the model, both aesthetically and dynamically. That’s what makes it a favorite with many enthusiasts; just like in its golden era, it possesses the very same virtues, matching and even besting rarefied exotics costing many times more. This E-type roadster hails from what many regard as the sweet spot of the E-type’s evolution, as well as the driver’s choice.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
