As a 1966 model this highly original, unrestored, maroon-liveried, left-hand drive example from The Rick Grant III Estate Collection features the glorious full-house triple-SU carb setup from before U.S.-delivered E-types were subdued with power-sapping twin carbs. It also predates the safety bumpers that later imposed on imports. Inside its black leather interior, Chassis No. 1E12849 further features Smiths instrumentation tucked behind a wood-rimmed steering wheel and a Solid State AM/FM radio.
For many, these late Series 1 E-types represents the zenith of the model, both aesthetically and dynamically. That’s what makes it a favorite with many enthusiasts; just like in its golden era, it possesses the very same virtues, matching and even besting rarefied exotics costing many times more. This E-type roadster hails from what many regard as the sweet spot of the E-type’s evolution, as well as the driver’s choice.
