Seller's description:
1974 Jaguar XKE Series 3 Roadster - One owner from New!
Original color combination
46 year ownership, from new!
Older Restoration
Consistent mechanical maintenance over 46 years.
The Jaguar featured here was shipped from the UK and imported though Canada by British Leyland Motors Inc., N.J. and sold new though Imperial Motors, Chicago, in September 1974. The buyer, a very pleased father and local resident, purchased the Jaguar as a surprise MBA graduation present for his son, who has cherished the car since.

The Jaguar naturally became a prized possession but was only used in the summer due to the climate in Illinois during the winter months. During these months, the Jaguar was covered and kept in a heated underground garage below the condominium in which the family lived.

In late 1988, the owners friend was looking to have his own car restored and suggested to him that his Jaguar would benefit from the same treatment. Agreeing, he decided to send his car to have a complete restoration, undertaken by the same local specialist, known for restoring high end European sports cars.

The Jaguar, showing around 50,000 miles at the time, was taken back to its bare shell and frame and completely overhauled. The mechanicals were all addressed with a disregard for the cost. The engine was stripped, balanced and blue printed. At this time, it was upgraded with better performance cams, better valves to modernise the car and Webber Carbs installed. The car took two years to complete but was finally enjoyed again at the end of the summer of 1990. Brand new once again, with the odometer set to zero.

The car remained in the Chicago area until 2003 when the owner and his car relocated to their second home in Palm Beach, Florida. At this point, the Webber carbs were taken off the car and more useable SU’s were installed. Over the following 17 years, the car received regular maintenance from local classic car specialists in the Palm Beach, FL, area before ending up with us at Milestone Motorcars, where it has remained for many years. During its time in Florida, a new air conditioning compressor was installed, replacing a GM unit with a very reliable and lighter Toyota unit to ensure it blows cold. A new cloth top was installed, replacing the crushed vinyl original top. A better electronic ignition has been installed also. All the chrome has been redone in recent years and the wheels refreshed with knock off spinners. The brakes, suspension etc., has all been maintained constantly. If anything were to ever go wrong, the caring owner sent his car in for immediate diagnosing and correction.

After 46 years of ownership, the time to sell has finally come. Presented with the original Jack, hammer, books and window sticker, this fabulous example is a joy to drive as a result of the caring owners constant desire to maintain the car. In the last 30 years the car has amounted just over 14,000 miles since restoration, having been used only seasonally. An exceptional opportunity to add a one owner from new example to your garage.
