This 1974 Jaguar XKE is a Series III roadster that was produced on February 12, 1974 and purchased new by the seller’s father from Bolen Imports of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. It is finished in dark blue with a black convertible top over red leather and is powered by a numbers-matching 5.3-liter V12 mated to a four-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes 15″ wire wheels, a convertible top boot, quad Zenith-Stromberg carburetors, four-wheel disc brakes, air conditioning, and a Sony head unit. Work carried out in 2020 consisted of rebuilding a carburetor and replacing the fuel pump, battery, and exhaust hangers. This XKE roadster is now offered with an owner’s manual, a Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate, a service manual, a factory jack, and a clean Kansas title in the name of the seller and his father.

Finished from the factory in Dark Blue, the body is said to have been repainted in 2002 and features a black convertible top, flared wheel arches, V12-badging, US-spec bumper guards, and quad center exhaust outlets. Blemishes including a tear in the convertible top, rock chips, and a rust spot on the passenger-side rear valance.

Factory 15″ wire wheels wear Pirelli P300 whitewall tires. Four-wheel disc brakes came standard, along with independent front and rear suspension. A full-size spare resides in the trunk along with the factory jack, and the black boot cover is shown fitted above. The seller notes that the parking brake is inoperable.

The cabin features bucket seats upholstered in Russet leather along with matching door panels and carpets. Black floor mats line the footwells, and amenities include air conditioning, an analog clock, a locking glovebox, and a Sony head unit with a CD player. The radio console surround panel is noted to be missing.

A leather-wrapped steering wheel frames Smiths gauges including a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 6,500-rpm redline. The tachometer functions intermittently, and the horn is said to be inoperable. The five-digit odometer indicates just over 16k miles.

The numbers-matching 5.3-liter V12 features quad side-draft Zenith-Stromberg carburetors, factory air cleaners, and polished rain shields. Factory-rated output was 264 horsepower, which is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. The seller states that the carburetor gaskets were replaced and a fuel leak was repaired in April 2017, while more recent maintenance performed this year included rebuilding the front left carburetor and replacement of the fuel pump, rubber exhaust hangers, and battery.

Engine block stamping 7S16291 corresponds to the number shown on the data tag riveted to the cowl as well as the Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate shown below.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
