Car at auction, listed at:
www.hemmings.com/auction/1974-jaguar-e-type-738239
Auction description:
Described as having been “fully restored” this 1974 Jaguar E-Type Series 3 roadster is equipped with the desirable four-speed manual transmission. The seller reports owning the car for 25 years. The car’s basic information and British Racing Green paint color are confirmed by the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate. The Jag is equipped with the optional air conditioning and factory fiberglass removable hardtop in contrasting black. The seller states: “This E Type has undergone a total documented frame-off and restoration, including the engine, drivetrain, brakes, steering, suspension, frame, interior, top, and paint.” He indicates 200 miles added to the E-Type since the restoration and says all components of the car function normally. The Jag won an Antique Auto Club of America First Prize Senior Award, which is included with the sale.
The seller reports that the original engine was rebuilt in the restoration. “It starts easily with the choke and idles smoothly with no smoke,” he says. There are no leaks or weeps of any vehicle fluids, he confirms. The four-speed manual transmission is said to shift smoothly through all gears.
The seller states that the roadster is “rust-free” and that the respray remains is in “excellent condition with no scratches, dents or chips,” and the provided photos support this description. The replacement black convertible top has been protected by the factory hardtop, the seller reports. The original glass and windshield are in “good condition” with no cracks. The car received all new seals and weather stripping throughout in the restoration. All lights and electrical system “function normally,” the seller states.
The E-Type’s seats used perforated leather, along with Ambla vinyl side and back trim, and photos confirm the seller’s description of “excellent condition without tears or cracks.” He says the car’s replacement carpeting remains “practically unused,” and reports interior trim in “excellent condition” with no missing pieces, knobs, or switches. The factory hardtop’s headliner remains in “excellent” reported condition. The manual windows and locks are operational, he says, as are the heat, A/C, and all Smiths gauges. The factory-style British Leyland AM/FM radio and four factory-placed speakers are all functional, per the seller.
The seller affirms that the vehicle’s suspension was “totally rebuilt” in the restoration and says there are no needs here. The stainless-steel wire-spoke wheels appear to gleam in photos, and the seller reports no curb rash, pitting or vibrations. The factory original-type Dunlop tires were added in the restoration, and, going by the old-type DOT manufacturing codes, they are likely too old to be used for driving. (They would certainly be appropriate for displaying the car in concours events.) The power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering “is tight and points straight,” the seller states, and he affirms there are no leaks. The factory four-wheel disc brakes were renewed in the restoration and function normally, the seller says.
The seller states that this vehicle will be sold on a clean Florida title in his name. He will include the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate, AACA Senior Award 2023, plus records and receipts from the restoration. This 1974 Jaguar E-Type Series 3 V12 convertible appears to have been restored to a very high standard and has an award and documentation to back that up. The classic color combination and four-speed manual would seem to be the proverbial icing on the very tasty cake presented.
