This 1973 Jaguar XKE is a Series III 2+2 coupe that was reportedly acquired by the seller from the son of its longterm second owner approximately 20 years ago. Power is provided by a 5.3-liter V12 paired with a four-speed manual transmission, and the car is finished in Sable over a Biscuit leather interior. Equipment includes knock-off wire wheels with earless spinners, an aftermarket stereo, and chrome bumpers with overriders. A new clutch kit and transmission seals were installed in 2013, and a rebuilt steering rack was fitted in 2015. This Series III XKE 2+2 is now being offered with some service records, manuals, and a clean Illinois title in the seller’s name.

The exterior is finished in Sable, noted issues include chips around the rocker panels, curb damage on the lower front passenger side, and rust around a drain plug on the driver-side rocker.

Polished 15” wire wheels with earless knock-off spinners are wrapped in Dunlop SP40 tires measuring 205/65. A matching spare is included in the trunk, along with a knock-off hammer. New front and rear brake lines were installed in 2013, and the steering rack was replaced with a refurbished unit in 2015 by Imports Unlimited of Highland Park, Illinois.

The interior features Biscuit leather seats with a matching headliner, door panels, and carpets. An older aftermarket stereo was installed under previous ownership, and the car is equipped with air conditioning, although the seller states that it does not blow cold. The headrest foam was replaced by the seller, who reports that the passenger side seatbelt does not retract fully.

A leather-wrapped steering wheel sits in front of a 160-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, and gauges for water temperature, oil pressure, voltage, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows just over 48k miles, approximately 16k of which have been added by the seller.

Power is provided by a 5.3-liter V12 paired with a four-speed manual transmission. A new clutch kit was installed in 2013, along with a new clutch slave cylinder and transmission seals. The factory underhood rain guards have been removed for cooling purposes but are included with the sale.

Lot #161973

This 1973 Jaguar E-Type Series III 2+2 was built in November 1972 and was shipped to New York before being purchased by the seller on BaT in May 2020. Power is provided by a 5.3-liter V12 paired with a four-speed manual transmission, and the car is finished in brown over a tan leather interior. Equipment includes 15″ knock-off wire wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, power steering, quadruple carburetors, a Jensen stereo, and air conditioning. Service performed under current ownership has involved installing a PerTronix ignition, adjusting the carburetors, and replacing the front brake pads, front shocks, ball joints, brake master cylinder, clutch cylinders, starter, spark plugs, plug wires, and tires. This E-Type is now offered with a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate, an owner’s manual, service records from current and prior ownership, spare parts, and a Kentucky title in the seller’s name.

The car was finished from the factory in Sable, and features include uncovered headlights, a forward-hinged louvered hood, a power antenna, and chrome bumpers with overriders. Noted imperfections include chips around the rocker panels, curb damage on the lower-front passenger side, and rust around a drain plug on the driver-side rocker. Some of the close-up and underside photos were taken in 2022.

Chrome-finished 15” wire wheels with earless knock-off spinners are wrapped in 205/65 BFGoodrich Advantage Control tires that were manufactured in 2022. The Series III E-Type was factory equipped with power steering, and stopping power is provided by four-wheel disc brakes with inboard-mounted rear rotors. The steering rack was replaced in 2015. The front brake pads, master cylinder, front shocks, ball joints, and tires were replaced under current ownership.

The 2+2 cabin features front bucket seats that are trimmed in tan leather. Other appointments include a color-coordinated rear bench seat, door panels, headliner, and carpeting as well as a Jensen CD stereo and a locking glovebox. The air conditioning works on its medium fan speed only, according to the seller, who also notes that the driver-side seatbelt does not retract.

The steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 6,500-rpm redline. An analog clock along with auxiliary gauges for voltage, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level are positioned in the center stack. The five-digit odometer shows 52k miles, approximately 4k of which were added under current ownership. The seller notes that the right-hand turn-signal light in the gauge cluster is loose and the dashboard backlighting is not dimmable.

The 5.3-liter V12 was factory equipped with quadruple Zenith-Stromberg carburetors and was rated at 241 horsepower and 285 lb-ft of torque when new. The carburetors were adjusted, the radiator was recored, and the starter, spark plugs, and plug wires were replaced in late 2020. PerTronix electronic ignition was installed and the air conditioning was serviced with R134a refrigerant in 2021.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The clutch cylinders were replaced in 2020. The car has been undercoated, and the seller notes an exhaust leak.

The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate lists a manufacture date of November 21, 1972, along with colors, serial numbers, and distribution to New York.

The Kentucky title indicates the title type as Out of State.
