Sellers description:
This 1970 Jaguar E-type convertible is an original matching numbers restoration project with a Jaguar Heritage Certificate and Jaguar Clubs of North America identification letter. The original exterior/interior is the very desirable Regency Red with beige interior plus it's a rare factory A/C car. Restoration was started back in the late 80s but not completed. The previous owner had started the restoration by having the mechanicals refurbished first. The engine was rebuilt but never run. The clutch, brakes, suspension and rear end were rebuilt. I have the initial receipt from the shop in Miami that did the work. I know they were one of the better Jag restoration shops in Miami years ago but not sure if still there. I had originally planned to keep this car so started the process of checking the engine out. I had a borescope inspection performed and found that all cylinders were clean and like new. They also said the engine still had the assembly lube coating indicating it had indeed been rebuilt. I didn't want to take a chance on turning the engine over after sitting for so long so I filled all cylinders with Marvel Mystery oil and let sit for 3 weeks. For the next week we slowly turned the crank manually to ensure no damage. It turns over freely and I feel confident that it was rebuilt and that it will run great. Serious bidders are welcome to have their mechanic inspect it. Average price to rebuild these engines is around $8000.00 to $10,000.00. I don't know the current condition of the other components that were rebuilt since it was done so long ago.
Much of the body was also restored with new floors, rockers and trunk. Almost the entire drivers side...trunk, floors, rockers, firewall are solid. Unfortunately the passenger side is showing signs of rust. There are small perforations in the far right side of the trunk and in the right front part of floor on the passenger side. The passenger side rocker is getting perforations and could either be repaired or replaced. The entire rear area behind the seats is solid overall. The front sub-frame and bulkhead are solid with no pin holes as typically found. The bonnet is in ok shape overall but needs some work especially around the nose.
It seems that most of the major parts are there and I have posted pictures of everything I have with the car except for about 3 or 4 boxes of small stuff that I have pictures of but ran out of room to post in the ad. Can send upon request. The things I know are missing are the gas tank which is readily available. Part of the convertible top frame is missing, I have the header panel but not the bows that attach to it. I just missed an entire top frame on ebay for $515. so they do become available. Also missing the windscreen and top windshield chrome. Not sure what else if anything is missing.
I have the Jaguar Heritage paperwork and similar from Jaguar Clubs of America (see pictures) showing all specifics and documentation for this vehicle. I also have a new factory correctly stamped data plate for the car.
Being a matching number car allows you to restore to whatever level you desire from driver to concours. Comes with clear Florida title and identification documents.
