This 1964 Jaguar XKE Series I coupe remained with a single family for 35 years according to the selling dealer, who acquired the car in 2023. It is thought to have been part of the J.B Nethercutt collection and was purchased for his daughter-in-law. The selling dealer believes the car was fitted with its center-console air conditioning unit in period by a dealer, and it has been further modified with a stainless-steel exhaust system, a CJ5 five-speed manual transmission, upgrades for the 3.8-liter inline-six, Aldan American adjustable suspension, wider wire-spoke wheels and oversized tires, Wilwood calipers, and a period Blaupunkt stereo. Finished in green over color-coordinated leather upholstery, this XKE Series I coupe is now offered in Texas with a Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate, spare parts, records, and a clean California title.
The Series I E-Types were equipped with covered headlights and taillights mounted above the chrome rear bumpers. This example is finished in Opalescent Dark Green, and additional equipment includes a louvered clamshell hood, a left-side mirror, triple windshield wipers, a side-hinged rear hatch, and dual exhaust outlets.
The car rides on an adjustable coilover suspension from Aldan American with polyurethane bushings. Wider-than-standard aluminum and stainless-steel wire-spoke wheels have been mounted with 215/60 Vredestein Sprint Classic tires, and Wilwood calipers have been installed.
According to the included Heritage Trust Certificate, the car was ordered with a Suede Green interior, and the selling dealer believes that the air conditioning center console was added in period by a dealer. The air conditioning components have been removed, but are included in the sale. A period-style Blaupunkt stereo and billet pedals have been installed, and the car also has AMCO floor mats.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames a Smiths 160-mph speedometer and 6k-rpm tachometer, while auxiliary gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and amperage are located in the center of the dashboard. The five-digit odometer shows 85k miles, approximately 1,500 of which were added under current ownership.
The 3.8-liter inline-six features triple SU carburetors fitted with velocity stacks. A spin-on oil filter, oil catch can, and oil cooler with a custom-fabricated alloy scoop have been installed along with a Malory ignition, MSD leads, an electric cooling fan, an oversized aluminum overflow tank, and silicone coolant hoses.
A CJ5 five-speed manual transmission and full stainless-steel exhaust system have also been installed.
Spare and removed components are included in the sale along with records, a jack in bag, tool pouch, wire wheel wrench, lead hammer, and spare wheel.
The car participated in the 2022 Tejas Turismo in Texas.
The Jaguar Heritage Trust Production Record Trace certificate shows the original colors and drivetrain numbers as well as the build and dispatch dates.
The car is being offered by the selling dealer alongside a matching ’62 convertible.
