This 1963 Jaguar XKE Series I coupe was built on February 26, 1963 and is powered by a numbers-matching 3.8-liter DOHC inline-six paired with a four-speed manual gearbox. The engine was rebuilt in 2000, a replacement fuel tank has been fitted, and the car was repainted British Racing Green in 2016. Additional alterations performed under current ownership included the installation of Pertronix electronic ignition, an aluminum radiator, a gear-reduction starter, and Wilwood brake calipers. Approximately 56k miles have been added since the seller reportedly purchased the car out of Iowa in 1998, and new shocks were installed last year. This XKE is now offered with its removed stock parts, factory manuals, service records beginning in 1982, a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate, and a clean New York title in the seller’s name.

Originally finished in Opalescent Golden Sand, the car was taken to bare metal and repainted British Racing Green in 2016. The work reportedly involved removal of the glass as well as rust repair and the installation of new chrome bumpers and overriders, seals, and window trim. Chrome 15” wire wheels are equipped with two-eared knock-off spinners. Vredestein tires and new front brake rotors were reportedly installed in 2017, and Wilwood brake calipers have been added by the seller.

Fixed-back seats are trimmed in light tan leather, and patterned aluminum accents the dash and center console. A period Motorola push-button radio and a wood-rimmed steering wheel are equipped. Corrosion is noted in the footwells.

Smiths instrumentation includes a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 5,500-rpm redline. The five-digit odometer has rolled over and shows more than 35k miles; the seller has added approximately 56k miles in 21 years. According to the seller, the turn signals do not automatically cancel.

The 3.8L inline-six is equipped with three SU carburetors and has been fitted with Pertronix electronic ignition, an aluminum radiator, a gear-reduction starter, and an auxiliary fan. An alternator replaces the factory generator, and the removed stock parts are included in the sale. The engine and cylinder heads were rebuilt by Lippincott’s Garage of Sinking Spring, Pennsylvania in 2000.

Engine-block stamping RA1186-9 matches the cylinder-head stamping, chassis plate, and Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate shown below. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual gearbox. New shocks were installed in 2018.

The Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate lists the factory colors as well as the chassis, engine, and body numbers. The certificate also notes that the car was dispatched to New York in March 1963.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
