Ebay item 10/8/09
cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Jaguar-E-Type-XKE-FHC-rust-free-matching-numbers-mostly- ...
Current bid $12,000 reserve not met, 1 bid 6 days left in auction.

Sellers description:
Olde English white with red leather interior, matching numbers, series 1 3.8 liter, 6 cylinder engine, 4-speed gearbox, wire wheels, cold A/C, great engine, needs minor refurbishing

Built in 1962, titled as a 1963.

Car just came out of 10 year storage. Engine runs very good. Has excellent compression (approx 160 PSI in all cylinders) and oil pressure. Amazingly the engine is not an oil leaker. Matching number engine.

On an e-type the most important thing to check is the body. While the paint on this car is mediocre the body itself is excellent. There are no rust bubbles on the doors, rocker panels or any of the other usual rust spots. The engine subframe is straight and rust free. Bonnet fits well. The body shows no signs of ever been in an accident.

Tires are old and will need to be replaced. Paint is not good quality. You can use it with this paint for some time but I am sure eventually you will want to have it repainted. Chrome bumpers have some pitting but are very straight and fine for a driver. Bumpers do not appear to have ever been redone. Interior is quite nice, it needs cleaning but I am sure it will turn out good as there are no rips or tears, and the leather is not dry. The driver's front carpet is worn. Headliner is in excellent condition. Chrome trim is quite nice. The boot lid glass has the chrome trim, which is missing on many cars and is very expensive, if you can find it. Has after market AC with a rotary compressor. AC turns on and blows very cold air! If you live in a warm climate you will be glad to have the AC as the coupes can get warm inside during the summer. If you decide the AC is not for you, removing the unit should be easy as no modifications to the dash were made. The car is fitted with an extra electric fan in front of the radiator. I assume this was done when the AC was installed, but in any case it is a very good thing to have since the original Jaguar fan is rather anemic.

The car starts, drives and stops but it does need some attention in order to make it a driver. I would recommend replacing all cooling hoses, lubricants, the belt, engine mounts, suspension, rebuild the brakes .. etc. I would not be surprised if some of these items are the original. The good news is this Jaguar is very unmolested, and the major items; which are the body and engine, are in good condition.I tested the headlights (low and high), side lamps, turn signals, horns, wipers, interior lamp and they were found to be working. Also working are the gauges, tachometer and speedometer. Not working are the wiper washer motor (the original glass washer is still in the car) and heater fan. I did not test the clock, but it probably stopped working in 1963.

Includes spare tire with its holder, original owner's manual with plastic pouch (very rare to find in original condition) and a Jaguar worldwide dealer booklet dated May, 1962 (even rarer!).

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
