This 1962 Jaguar XKE Series I coupe was acquired by the current owner in 2018 as a non-running project that is said to have remained in storage for over 25 years. It subsequently underwent a mechanical and cosmetic refurbishment that is noted to have involved repainting the body, re-trimming the interior, and overhauling the engine, differential, suspension, and brakes. The car is finished in metallic blue over black leather and is powered by a 3.8-liter inline-six mated to a four-speed manual transmission. Further equipment includes an electronic ignition system, triple SU carburetors, Gaz shocks, and 15” wire wheels as well as a wood-rimmed steering wheel, a heater, and an AM/FM radio. This Series I coupe is now offered with an extra set of four 15″ wire wheels, a collection of spare and removed parts, and a Utah title in the seller’s name listing the car as a 1963 model.

The car is said to have left the factory finished in Opalescent Silver Blue and was repainted under current ownership after installation of replacement floor panels. Equipment includes a louvered hood, headlight covers, split chrome bumpers, and a stainless-steel exhaust system with twin central outlets.

Chrome-finished 15″ wire wheels are secured by two-eared knock-off spinners and are mounted with Vercelli Classic 787 thin whitewall tires. A full-size spare is stowed in the trunk. Gaz shocks were fitted and the suspension was overhauled as part of the refurbishment along with the four-wheel disc brakes, according to the seller.

The cabin houses low-back bucket seats that have been re-trimmed in black leather. A Jaguar-branded push-button AM/FM radio is installed within the center stack, and the car is equipped with a heater as well as lap belts for the driver and passenger.

A wood-rimmed steering wheel frames a Smiths tachometer with a 5,500-rpm redline accompanied by a 160-mph speedometer. Smiths and Lucas auxiliary gauges are centrally mounted, and the analog clock is inoperative. The five-digit odometer shows 66k miles, approximately 350 of which have been added under current ownership.

The 3.8-liter inline-six was reportedly rebuilt as part of the refurbishment. It is equipped with triple SU carburetors as well as a high-output starter, a CoolCat fan, and an electronic ignition system. The seller notes an engine run-on condition after the engine is turned off.

The serial number stamping on the cylinder head is shown above, and a photo of the engine block stamping is presented in the gallery.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. The differential is said to have been overhauled by the seller.

A selection of spare and removed parts are included in the sale along with paint and an additional set of 15″ wire wheels.

The Utah title is listed as a corrected title.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
