    Ebay item 9/13/09
    cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Jaguar-E-Type-XKE-1964-Jaguar-XKE-Convertible-3-8L-One-O ...
Car has a buy it now price of $121,000 for 20 days.

    Sellers description:
This 3.8 Liter 265 HP 6 cylinder 4-speed XKE Roadster is a true un-restored, un-molested, survivor with 20,102 documented original single owner miles - factory and showroom original in every way but newer tires (except original Dunlop spare) and maintenance components.

This car comes with complete documentation from the moment of purchase, its entire service history, signed letters of authenticity, current condition report and boxes of brand new replacement gaskets, electrical system components, replacement oil drain plug washers and much more - all factory parts, not refurbished, not aftermarket, not replicas!

By now you might have guessed that this car has been owned by an engineer. Yup, one of the most fastidious we've ever met. When not in use he's kept this Jag on jack stands (no weight on the suspension or tires) in a secure, climate controlled two-space collection room on epoxy flooring, and near-clean room conditions along with an equally awesome '31 Ford.

In preparation for sale this Jag when through a thorough inspection and received extensive routine and preventive maintenance, including:

    * A compression test of the original un-rebuilt engine showing:
    o Cylinder 1 = 175 lbs
    o Cylinder 2 = 178 lbs
    o Cylinder 3 = 182 lbs
    o Cylinder 4 = 180 lbs
    o Cylinder 5 = 180 lbs
    o Cylinder 6 = 179 lbs

Complete removal, flushing and cleaning of the entire fuel system, refurbishing the tank, new fuel pump, new level sensor, new sediment bowl and line filters, rebuilding of the triple SU carburetors, including new needles, and servicing the choke assembly.

Complete service of the cooling system including flushing, new coolant tank, thermostat and coolant.

Flushing the crankcase and refilling with Castrol 20W-50.

Complete inspection and servicing of the electrical/ignition system, including a new battery.

The transmission was completely inspected and serviced; functioning as new.

The exhaust system is original and as new.

The brake system has been inspected, is original and functions as new.

All gauges, lights, wipers, horn and other accessories work as new.

In all just under $4,000 was spent preparing this Jag for her second owner; perhaps that's you. This Jag purrs like a perfectly tuned feline waiting to pounce and runs exquisitely - as she was meant to.

The frame, pans, suspension are all original and exactly as you would expect with just 20,102 road miles. The car was factory undercoated. The suspension bushings and body mounts are not torn or cracked, but are pliable and not compressed. The underside is as dry as any Series I Jag fresh from the factory. Even the factory assembly chalk marks are clearly visible. All ride on true and round factory wire wheels with 185 x 15 Pirelli Cinturato 5/8” white wall radials.

The body is all original, undamaged, un-corroded and glistens as new. Minor paint work - which can be seen in certain light - was done by Jaguar at the US Port of Entry before the car was released to the selling dealership. This was disclosed to the buyer at the time of purchase and is reported and included in the documentation. The owner has made no attempt to correct this and believes, as we do, that this imperfection is part of the car's overall perfection. As a result, about 95% of the paint is absolutely factory original.

Like many perfectionist-owners, this Jag's owner saw and repaired minor deterioration on the rear valence. Then he created two weep holes to allow both side trunk cavities to properly and fully drain any condensation. He drilled an additional set of weep holes in the dual exhaust pipes to allow for proper condensation evacuation. All have done their job to prevent deterioration of original components.

All the door gaskets and body seals are as new. The sale includes brand new replacements should the time come for a change. The glass is original and one stone chip on the windscreen has been professionally serviced and is virtually invisible. All the surrounding window felt and seals are as new. All exterior chrome and brite-work is showroom clear and undamaged.

The interior is as new, with no excuses or disclaimers. While this Jag has 20,102 original miles in the odometer, the passenger seat has been used less than 1,000 of those miles; maybe less. The wood wheel, padding, leather, carpeting, gauges, toggles, surrounds and brite-work are all original and showroom fresh. The top is original and like new. The Izen glass is clear and non-yellowed, but has very slight wear in the fold.

Please note that this Jag came without a radio. But she comes complete with its tonneau cover, original tool kit, jack (with replacement pliers), brass and leather wheel mallet, owner's manuals, purchase documents, complete history, spare key and more.

The exhaust resonators are not correct for this car, they are 4.2 versions. No explanation here. Not necessarily an issue, mufflers used to rust out quickly during leaded fuel days. But what else is non-original?

    2017-04-01 16:07:33 | Bob Stevenson writes:

I just saw Jerrys post about the 4.2 resonators, which is correct, and they were installed by the dealer, shame on them! The car had the header tank replaced, a couple of water hoses and there is a question of why there is one phillips head screw in the commision plate. At the time I took the pictures I had no idea that the car would be shortly sold, if so I would have taken many more pictures and inquired about several small things.

This 1964 Jaguar XKE Series I roadster was sold new at Sports Cars Inc. in Flint, Michigan and reportedly remained registered to the original owner before being acquired by the seller in 2009. The car is finished in red over black leather upholstery and is powered by a 3.8-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes a black soft top, chrome 15″ knock-off wire wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, triple SU carburetors, covered headlights, and a wood-rimmed steering wheel. This Series I XKE roadster is now offered in Florida with a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate, initial purchase documents, manufacturer’s literature, service records, and a clean Wisconsin title in the name of the seller’s family trust.

The car is finished in Carmen Red and features a black soft top, a louvered clamshell hood, covered headlights, a Talbot Berlin bullet-style mirror, dual center-exit exhaust outlets, and wrap-around chrome bumpers with overriders and front and rear grille guards. The seller states that paintwork was performed on the hood and right rear quarter panel after being damaged during initial delivery to the US. Blemishes in the finish and deteriorating weatherstripping are documented in the gallery below.

Chrome-finished 15″ knock-off wire wheels are mounted with 185-series Pirelli Cinturato tires, and a Dunlop spare is stored in the trunk. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rear rotors. The seller reports that the calipers and both master cylinders were rebuilt under current ownership.

The cabin features bucket seats trimmed in black leather with a color-coordinated dashboard, door panels, and carpets. Equipment includes a heater, lap belts, manual-crank windows, and a storage compartment on the right side of the dash.

The wood-rimmed steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer and a 6k-rpm tachometer with an inset clock, while auxiliary gauges are mounted in the center of the dash. The five-digit odometer shows 20k miles, approximately 200 of which were added under current ownership.

The 3.8-liter inline-six features dual overhead camshafts and triple SU carburetors. The seller states that the fuel filter was replaced in 2022 and that the carburetors were rebuilt and an oil change was performed in preparation for the sale.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission.

The Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate shows factory equipment, chassis and engine numbers, distribution through Jaguar Cars in New York, and a build date of June 5, 1964.

The engine and cylinder head stampings match the numbers listed on the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate as well as the chassis plate.

Initial purchase documents are included in the sale, along with manufacturer’s literature, service records, photos from previous ownership, and a tool kit.
