This 1964 Jaguar XKE roadster is a triple-black example that is powered by its numbers-matching 3.8-liter inline-six and four-speed manual transmission. Acquired by the seller in 1995, the car was taken off the road in 1998, it received an engine rebuild in 2016, and a restoration encompassing the body, interior, transmission, and chassis was conducted from 2016 to 2020 by Affinity Imports of Salem, Oregon. This Series I E-Type is offered with a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, invoices and photos from the restoration, a factory tool roll, and a clean Oregon title in the seller’s name.

This XKE is one of 20 triple-black roadsters built for 1964. The body was taken down to bare metal, the passenger door skin replaced, and a respray in the original black reportedly was performed by Marsh Burns of Vancouver, Washington. Fresh body rubbers for the doors, hood, and trunk were installed.

The convertible top and boot were replaced along with the windshield. The trunk interior panels have been replaced, and the trunk houses a matching spare wire wheel, a factory jack, and a tool roll with some replacement items. The chrome-finished wire wheels wear a set of Avon tires that are more than 20 years old.

The seats and the center armrest have been reupholstered in black leather, and new carpets were fitted. The door panels and the center console were re-covered in vinyl, and the seatbelts have been replaced. The seller disassembled the heater and replaced the rubber gaskets and the fan motor.

A new wood-rimmed steering wheel frames an instrument panel that contains factory Smiths gauges and toggle switches. Just over 68k miles are shown on the five-digit odometer, approximately 6k of which have been added by the seller since 1995, about 700 of those since the restoration was completed.

The 3.8-liter inline-six is fed by triple SU carburetors and is paired with a rebuilt four-speed manual gearbox. The engine was dismantled and bored .020″ over, with machine work done by Hatch Engine of Aumsville, Oregon in 2004 and the rebuild performed in 2016. The pistons were replaced, the cam covers polished, and the generator rebuilt. The cooling system features a re-cored radiator, a new tank, and new heater hoses. The steering rack, brake master cylinder, and clutch master cylinder were replaced. The seller changed the oil and filter in late 2019 following 500 miles on the rebuilt engine.

The stamping on the cylinder head matches the engine number listed on the Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate and on the car’s body plate. The transmission serial number also matches the certificate and the plate. A new stainless-steel exhaust system with porcelain-enameled headers has been fitted. The rear suspension was disassembled and the brakes rebuilt. As part of the restoration, the front frame was disassembled and repainted. Unpainted suspension and brake parts were nickel-plated. .

The Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate shows a build date of November 12, 1963, and it lists factory colors as well as the chassis, body, engine, and gearbox numbers.
