This 1963 Jaguar XKE is a Series I roadster that was built on September 6, 1962 and received a refurbishment in the 1990s before being kept as part of a private collection during the last 16 years. The car has been repainted red with a tan soft top over a tan interior, and power is supplied by a 3.8-liter inline-six equipped with triple SU side-draft carburetors and linked with a four-speed manual transmission. Additional equipment includes an aftermarket AM/FM push-button stereo, a Custom Autosound 10-disc CD changer, and chrome trim, bumpers, and wire wheels with knock-off hubs. This Series I roadster is now being offered by the selling dealer in Huntington Station, New York with an owner’s manual, tool kit, jack, a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate, and a clean Florida title.
Delivered new in Opalescent Silver Blue with a blue soft top, the car has since been repainted red and fitted with a tan soft top and tonneau cover. Features include dual central exhaust outlets, glass headlight covers, and chrome bumpers and trim. Photos of the soft top raised and lowered can be seen in the gallery, along with photos of awards the car has won at various shows on concours. The awards themselves are not included with the sale.
The 15” polished wire wheels feature knock-off hubs and are wrapped in Michelin red stripe radial tires. A full-size spare is found in the trunk. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel disc brakes with inboard rear rotors, and the car rides on independent suspension with torsion bars up front and coil springs out back.
Originally trimmed in Light Blue, the cabin has since been reupholstered in tan leather with matching door panels and carpets. Lap belts have been fitted for both occupants, and an aftermarket stereo with an auxiliary input is linked with a trunk-mounted 10-disc CD changer.
A three-spoke wood-rimmed steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation consisting of a 160-mph speedometer and a 6k-rpm tachometer with an inset clock. Ancillary gauges for water temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and amperage are mounted in the center of the dash. The five-digit odometer shows just over 44k miles, though total mileage is unknown.
The 3.8-liter inline-six features triple SU side-draft carburetors and was factory-rated at 265 horsepower with 283 lb-ft of torque. An electric cooling fan has been added, and the selling dealer reports that the oil has been changed within the last year.
Cylinder head stamping number R7437-9 matches the number shown on the Heritage Trust Certificate, while the engine block has been replaced some time ago. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed synchromesh manual transmission.
The Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate lists a build date of September 6, 1962, along with the factory colors and the chassis, body, engine, and gearbox numbers.
