This car is one of the more desirable “flat floor” Series I roadsters. It was delivered new to Italy in 1962 where it was used by the same owner until 1972 when it appears to have been taken off the road. It was then bought by a Swiss collector and imported into Switzerland in 1981 and has resided in his personal collection since.

The Oatmetal hide interior is in original condition, and has the correct bucket seats. The paint is the original red, but has obviously received attention at some time in the past. The car is correct for the period with the faired in headlights and chrome wire wheels. Recently it has been totally serviced and recommissioned at a cost of over CHF 22'000, bills and description of which are with the car.

The launch of the Jaguar E-Type at the Geneva Motor Show in May 1961 is the stuff of legend. Factory driver Norman Dewis piloted a brand-new coupe 610 miles overnight from London to Switzerland for the launch. The car caused such a sensation that another had to be shipped over for display, as Dewis was busy giving rides to the press. Decades later, an E-Type still draws a crowd on any street.

The E-Type was powered by the 265-horsepower engine with triple SU carburettors from the XK150 S encased inside a fabulously aerodynamic monocoque body designed by Malcolm Sayer and Sir William Lyons. Contemporary road tests performed by The Autocar recorded the E-Type achieving an astounding 150 mph top speed with a 0-60 mph time of 6.9 seconds.

Chassis number 877169 is a factory left-hand-drive Series I, originally dispatched in May 1962 to Italy. According to the original Italian Libretto, the first owner retained the E-Type until 1980, when he passed it to a student in Rome before it was quickly sold to a United States citizen residing in Munich. Neither of these two owners registered the car, however a bill of sale does record the transfer. In 1981 the vehicle passed to its current owner, who imported it to Switzerland. This E-Type still retains its original interior, and is numbers matching to the accompanying Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate.

Coming complete with service and maintenance invoices totalling 42,000 CHF (€39.300), recorded owner history, and original Italian Libretto, this E-Type is a stunning example of one of the most beautiful cars ever to be designed.

Le lancement de la Jaguar Type au Salon de Genève, en mars 1961, fait partie de la légende. Le pilote d'essai du constructeur, Norman Dewis, conduisait dans la nuit par la route le tout nouveau coupé sur les 980 km séparant Londres de Genève, pour être présent pour le lancement. La voiture faisait sensation, à tel point qu'un autre exemplaire devait être expédié pour être exposé, Davis s'occupant de faire essayer la voiture à la presse. Des années plus tard, la Type E continue à fasciner le public lorsqu'elle apparaît dans la circulation.

La Type E était équipée du moteur 265 ch à trois carburateurs de l'XK 150, inséré dans une fabuleuse carrosserie monocoque aérodynamique, créée par Malcolm Sayer et Sir William Lyons. Les essais d'époque réalisés par la magazine The Autocar ont chronométré la Type E à la vitesse de pointe étonnante de 240 km/h, avec une accélération de 0 à 100 km/h en 6,9 s.

Le numéro de châssis 877169 est une Série I conduite à gauche, livrée neuve en mai 1962 en Italie. D'après le "Libretto" italien d'origine, le premier propriétaire a gardé la voiture jusqu'en 1980, avant de la céder à un étudiant de Rome qui la vendait assez vite à un citoyen américain résidant à Munich. Aucun de ces deux propriétaires n'immatriculait la voiture, mais un certificat de vente mentionne le transfert. En 1981, la voiture rejoignait le propriétaire actuel, qui l'importait en Suisse. Cette Type E présente encore son intérieur d'origine, et ses numéros concordent avec ceux que mentionne le certificat du Jaguar Heritage Trust qui est joint au dossier.

Accompagnée de factures de révisions et d'entretien totalisant la somme de 42 000 francs suisses (39 300 €), de son historique de propriété et son "Libretto" italien d'origine, cette Type E est un superbe exemplaire d'une des plus belles voitures jamais produites.
