Ebay item 4/12/13
cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1962-Jaguar-E-type-Roadster-Barn-Find-Low-Miles-Same-own ...
Current bid $21,099 reserve not met, 11 bids 6 days left in auction. Complete VIN on this car is J62876734.

Sellers description:
1962 Jaguar E-type Series I Roadster 3.8 "Barn Find" Restoration Project. This Jaguar was built on February 20th of 1962. The original colors on the car were Opalescent Silver Grey with Red interior and a black top. The date of dispatch was March 1, 1962. This was an original CA car and was originally delivered to a Mr. P Elsen of Los Angeles, CA USA. We purchased this car from a gentleman whose mother purchased the car on May 7th of 1975. We do have the Bill of Sale when his mother purchased the car. This Jaguar E-type was sitting since 1977 (almost 40 years) in a barn when we purchased the car. It has only 49,830 original miles on it. The car is in need of a full and complete restoration to bring it back to its former glory. This is a matching numbers car and the numbers are as follows:
Chassis Number: 876734
Engine Number: R 4082-9
Body Number: R 3136 (Read Note below)
Gearbox Number: EB3212 JS

Please note the body number on the actual car is R 3142 and this was quite common on earlier cars to have a different body number on the tag than that of Jaguar archives and data plate. This does not mean that the body was changed. As quoted by Mr. Anders Ditlev Clausager author of Factory Original Jaguar E-type The originality guide to 3.8, 4.2 and V12 models and Jaguar Archivist in England, on page 152 on this book:

"On many 1961-1962, the body number on this tag is slightly different from that found on the main ID plate. It is normally the number from the ID plate which is in the Jaguar Car record Book. No one seems to know why such errors occurred. Owners of these cars with conflicting body numbers can be assured that these discrepancies are fairly common, and do not mean that their cars have had a change of body!"

This car has been sitting for almost 40 years and mostly with the bonnet open, so there is some rust on the nose belly pan piece (water settled) and the floors are rusty in need of replacement. The car does not run and the original engine does not turn. The car does roll and steer. The seats were redone in the late 1970s and were barely used since, as was the top barely used. The soft top may be original, but we are not sure. Please understand this car will need a complete restoration from the ground up to bring it back to its former glory. The prices of Jaguar E-type Series I cars have been appreciating nicely and are excellent investment cars. With the investment of some time and money this will make a great car for someone. In addition it is truly rare with its low mileage, ownership history and great original color combination. We buy and sell Jaguar E-types, so we do know currant pricing on these Jaguar E-type Series I Roadsters both restored and unrestored.

This automobile is available for inspection in Cornelius, NC and by appointment only.

Sellers description:
1962 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 3.8 Roadster
Registration Number: UK Registered
Chassis Number: 876734

A 'matching numbers' example, this desirable early E-Type first dispatched on the 1st March 1962 to Jaguar Cars, NYC. The car was first delivered to a Mr. P Elsen of Los Angeles, CA USA and was finished in an opalescent silver grey, with a red interior and black hood (soft top).

The car had been sitting since 1977 (almost 40 years) in storage until the previous owner purchased the car from a Mr. Furguson whose mother, Frances Wilkes Furguson purchased the car on May 7th of 1975 from a Mr. Lawrence Neil Crutchfield of Charlotte, NC. Since then the vendor who purchased the car from its previous owner in Cornelius, NC, brought the car to the UK where it has been treated to a complete 'ground-up' 'nut and bolt' restoration, and is now finished in this fantastic colour of silver sand, with complementary brand new cream leather interior and a lovely new brown convertible hood. This car also comes with a removable 'hard top' which makes this truly an all around usable classic. The car has done less than 20 miles since its complete restoration. The car is UK registered and comes with current road tax, and a very practical roof rack for safe storage of the removable hard top for those summer months when not in use.
