Sellers description:
1962 XKE Series I, 3.8 liter Roadster. Obviously it is being sold for restoration. This is a flat floor car and is pretty much complete. It has the very early cage on the rear suspension. The car was a stalled restoration and has been sitting for some time. The engine turns freely and the bonnet is in real nice shape. The car will need floors, inner and outer sills. The boot is in fair condition. The car did not have a commission plate when we received it. The chassis number is - 876659 and the engine number is R5578-9. The seats are all there, although covered in velour. The gauges are all in the car and the soft top frame is on the car.

Car sold to the UK in 2014

For sale at Autostorico of Bourne End for £139,950. Seller's description below.
www.autostorico.co.uk/cars-for-sale/jaguar-e-type-series-1-roadster

The 1962 Jaguar E Type Series 1 Roadster offered here at Autostorico is finished in Opalescent Silver Grey metallic with Blue leather interior. Supplied new by Jaguar Cars of New York and registered on 7th February 1962 to Mr C J Frankenfield, this very original example spent most of its life in America. Upon returning to the United Kingdom in 2014 the current owner decided to convert the car to RHD and whilst doing this undertook a total, no expense spared, nut and bolt restoration. Work started with removing the engine and gearbox and stripping the whole body, at this point new sills and floors were fitted before rustproofing and priming ready for a respray in its original Opalescent Grey.

The engine had a complete rebuild by VSE Engine Services in Wales at which point it was decided that a Guy Broad 5 speed gearbox be fitted. Other notable works included; a full suspension rebuild, steering overhaul, full rewire including fitting a period looking alternator, halogen headlamps, high torque starter motor and electronic ignition system, upgraded 4 pot aluminium front brake calipers, carburetor rebuild, stainless steel exhaust system, new chrome wheels and tyres fitted. Finally, a complete new interior was fitted including re-covering the seats, door panels, metalwork, replacing the carpets and re-trimming the hood. Offered here with a current V5 registration document, MoT certificate valid until January 2019 and a history file containing numerous invoices including a heritage certificate. This car offers the opportunity to own a fine example of the most desirable Series 1 E Type, which will certainly appreciate over time.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
