THIS CAR

This elegant 1962 Jaguar E-Type Series I 3.8-Litre Roadster is consigned by Jeff Carlisi, founding member, lead guitarist, and songwriter of the multi-platinum rock band 38 Special. The Jaguar was previously owned by his father, a US Navy fighter pilot, who imported the car new from Spain in 1962. At the time, Jeff Carlisi was 10 years old.

"I'll never forget the day we drove out to Emerson Airport to pick up the Jag," Jeff Carlisi says. "[It] was Dad's daily car, but my fondest memories were going to Daytona, Sebring, and a little race held at Fernandina Beach Airport called the Golden Crown Prix. From 1964 through 1967, we took the Jag to all of these events, witnessing history being made during the glory days of sports car racing." When Mr. Carlisi went to college to earn his degree in architecture, the Jaguar fell into disrepair in his parents' yard. Along the way, Mr. Carlisi founded 38 Special and became a bona-fide rock star. In 1983 and with his father's blessing, Mr. Carlisi embarked upon a breathtaking and meticulous restoration.

The XKE was sent to the Jaguar specialists Classic Coachworks in Atlanta, where its restoration was overseen by John Sherman, a Jaguar expert from the UK who previously worked at Jaguar's Browns Lane Plant in Coventry, England. Over the next two years, the E-Type was mechanically and cosmetically restored as original, with the exception of its brakes, which were updated to a later series hydraulic assist system. The original bellows are included in the sale.

Once the restoration was completed, Russ Carlisi flew to Atlanta to see the work commissioned by his son. Jeff Carlisi remembers it well. "His first sight of the car brought tears to his eyes," he says. "He was so proud."

Since then, the beautiful E-Type has been successfully shown in concours events and enjoyed occasional drives through the mountains of Georgia. To date, the odometer shows less than 77,000 original miles. It is expertly maintained by Jaguar specialist and former JCNA President Dick Maury, and it has been carefully stored in a climate-controlled facility.

The original sales documentation, Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate, tool roll, photo books documenting the restoration, service and restoration receipts, and awards accompany the sale. Importantly, Mr. Carlisi is also including the Peavey Generation S-1 guitar he played in 38 Special's 1989 video "Second Chance," along with signed photos, a CD, and a DVD of an interview Mr. Carlisi did with the Wall Street Journal.

Given its timeless beauty, single family ownership, celebrity provenance, award-winning history, impressive restoration, and brilliant performance, this Series I E-Type Roadster will make an extraordinary addition to any garage or collection.
