Car offered for auction 9/14/04 at
www.barons-auctions.com/

Auction description:
Jaguar E-Type SI Flat Floor 3.8
For Sale by Auction Tues September 14th 2004
Sandown Park Exhibition Complex, Esher, Surrey

Everything that can be said has been said about the E-Type. As with many things in life, the original is thought to be the best and in E-Type terms that means a Flat Floor, 3.8, Series One. The roadster has the edge over the FHC in the desirability department but the FHC was the car unveiled on the Jaguar stand at the Geneva Motor Show in 1961.

Here we have a 1961, Series One, 3.8, Flat Floor, roadster, which was purchased from The E-Type Centre, in 1999, for £45,000. Not only is it a very early model, it also has some very interesting and enhancing features. These include; an all syncromesh gearbox. Weber carburettors, Koni Shocks and a larger bore stainless steel exhaust.

When the car was acquired from the E-Type Centre, Marque specialist Ken Jenkins of the JEC was asked to inspect the car. His report is included in the history file and all of its recommendations are said to have been implemented.

The original engine turned aluminium dash is intact as are the seats and braking system. The car also has the early hollow driveshafts and a later 3.8 radiator.

The vendor assures us that the car will pass any inspection.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
