I have the "picture" frame for this car. I assume it's a write-off.

Hi GEO,
this is a bit to easy to assume that a car is scrapped just because you find a removable part like the picture frame that maybe looks hard to restore (that's probably the reason why it had been thrown away).
I found 875515 in a vehicle directory of the INTERNATIONAL E-TYPE REGISTER, 6th edition 2001. Info contact: Petronel@jdc-etype.org.uk
Only registered details of 875515 are:
colour = opalescent silver blue and the registration VSU 921

Bill,

I would agree except there is no problem with the picture frame. It has the rack mounts intact and all the other bits are in good condition. I bought it from the owner of Gran Tourismo Jaguar a couple of years ago. That adds to the mystary.

875515 was for sale in Marin County, California in the mid-80s through an ad in Hemmings. It was very sound and restorable, but had a really bad, slightly later bonnet. A friend bought it to restore for his girlfriend. He remembers replacing the picture frame with a new one. A short time later it was sold to England, minus the bonnet, for restoration. I still have the rough old bonnet from it. So Bill's comments above about 875515 being in the JDC register would appear to be correct.

I'm the one who did the work on 875515 for my girlfriend who bought the car from someone in Marin County around 1985 or so. The car had a very rust free tub but an unusable bonnet. The car had a later "ribbed" cam cover 4.2 engine and long tail shaft full sycro transmission. I rebuilt the front suspension and replaced the picture frame at that time because the fan mount had been cut off and it had a crack in the shock mount if I remember correctly. The new picture frame was purchased from Gran Turismo Jaguar and I when she sold the car (actually she traded it for a more original 3.8 rds) the original picture frame went with the car as a spare part. The person who sold the car to a buyer in England sold (or gave) the original picture frame to someone in Santa Cruz because he needed a restorable one. I hope this clears up some miss information about this cars history.

If the current owner or restorer visits this site I'd love to see a few pictures posted of this car...

Does anyone have pictures of this car after it was restored?

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
