This 1962 Jaguar XKE is a Series I flat-floor roadster that has remained registered in California to the same owner since 1983. The car was restored at some point during that time, and in 2011 it was awarded second in class at the Niello Concours at Serrano and also achieved a best-in-class award at a Jaguar Clubs of North America Concours d’Elegance. Powered by a 3.8-liter inline-six mated to a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential, the car is finished in Opalescent Dark Green with a tan soft top and tan leather upholstery. It also has a soft top boot, enclosed headlights, 15″ wire-spoke steel wheels, AMCO bars, a luggage rack, power-assisted disc brakes, triple windshield wipers, and a heater. Acquired by the selling dealer in 2023, this XKE Series I roadster is now offered in Texas with correspondence from Jaguar, tools, and a clean California title.

This Series I is a flat-floor example that features a continuous floorboard under each seat. The car is finished in Opalescent Dark Green and was restored at some point. The car has a tan soft top, a soft top boot, enclosed headlights, welded louvers in the clamshell hood, wrap-around chrome bumpers, a left-side mirror, triple windshield wipers, and dual exhaust outlets. A luggage rack and AMCO bars have been added.

The 15″ wire wheels are secured by two-eared knock-offs, and Universal Sport redlines were mounted in 2024. Braking is provided by four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rear rotors.

The cabin features bucket seats upholstered in tan leather along with color-coordinated door panels and carpets. Interior appointments include textured aluminum dash trim, a sliding rearview mirror, and a heater.

The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames a Smiths 160-mph speedometer and 6k-rpm tachometer, while auxiliary gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and amperage are located in the center of the dashboard. The five-digit odometer shows 3k miles, though the dealer does not believe it is accurate, and total mileage is unknown.

The 3.8-liter inline-six features triple SU carburetors and was factory rated at 265 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque.

Power is routed to the rear wheels through a Moss four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential.

A tool kit, jack, grease gun, and knock-off hammer are included in the sale.

A 1982-dated correspondence from Jaguar Cars Limited lists colors, the serial number, and additional information.

The car is being offered by the selling dealer alongside a matching ’64 coupe.

The California title lists the car’s VIN as J62875461.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
