In early 1980, 875143 was advertised from Illinois, but by late 1980 it was advertised by a new owner from New Jersey. It was again advertised in Hemmings Motor News in late 1982.

This car was listed for sale in the September '81 issue of Ejag magazine, The ad contact was listed as Andy Strasser in New Jersey. The ad reads as follows:

1961 E-type Roadster Mechanically totally restored by professional restoration shop at great expense, no miles since. Body and interior exceptional unrestored and does not need it. 42,000 miles on car. Serial no 875143 (143rd car), a very rare find for the true collector. Best offer over $16000.

Dear Lofty,

did you get any information about the price of this car in this Auction?

I took a look at this car it is a older restoration of 1st class paint finish, the interior has been updated again great job but looking like it needs a little tidy up, the bonnet does not sit correctly on the car but having looked at just needs adjusting and the front bumpers are loose and have dropped, the car is rust free, I took it for a spin the engine and the mechanics all sounded and felt great for a car that has been restored some years ago.

Chassis no. 875143
*,Delivered new to the USA
*Left-hand drive
*Full matching numbers: engine, cylinder head, gearbox
*Flat floors, external bonnet locks, etc
*Previously restored and recently re-commissioned

'Here we have one of the quietest and most flexible cars on the market, capable of whispering along in top gear at 10mph or leaping into its 150mph stride on the brief depression of a pedal. A practical touring car, this, with its wide doors and capacious luggage space, yet it has a sheer beauty of line which easily beats the Italians at their own particular game.'

The 143rd left-hand drive roadster built, this E-Type has various features that characterise these early examples in addition to the flat floors. These include welded-in louvres on the (matching-number) bonnet; external bonnet locks; two-part boot reinforcer; two-part boot hinges; early-type petrol filler surround; early-type number plate lamps; and the early rear wheel bearing carriers. Other noteworthy features include the original early inlet manifold with 'snail'-type thermostat housing; and original-type brake fluid reservoir caps. The engine supporting 'picture frame' is stamped but faint.

Chassis number '875143' was originally restored in the USA some years ago, and also benefits from recent extensive re-commissioning here in the UK, which included refreshing the body with new paint and chromium plating, and a new interior and hood by Mike Turley. This re-commissioning also involved removing the engine and gearbox, and detailing the former with new gaskets, seals, and a new water pump, while the gearbox was rebuilt with new bearings and replacement gears.

The clutch and the prop shaft universal joints were renewed, while the rear axle was removed, stripped and detailed, and the differential overhauled. New suspension springs and shock absorbers were fitted all round, and new wheel bearings installed. The front suspension was removed and detailed with all new joints and bushes, and the steering rack and pinion overhauled. New brake piston assemblies were fitted. In addition, the car has been upgraded with a complete stainless steel exhaust system and a new aluminium radiator in the correct style.

Described by the vendor as in 'A1' condition, this beautiful E-Type roadster is offered with MoT to 2018 and a V5C Registration Certificate.
