    Auction description:
    Engine No. R6698-9
    Chassis No. 860763
    Body Work Coupe
    Colour Red
    Interior Red

This desirable 3.8-litre E-type is the 763rd right-hand drive FHC left the Browns Lane factory in Coventry on the 13th of August, 1962, finished in the same colour combination it wears today - red with matching upholstery. According to a letter supplied by Jaguar to the vendor's father many years ago, the E-type was first sold through Scottish retailer Messrs Rossleigh Ltd of Edinburgh and initially wore the plates '957 LUB'. The name of the original owner and subsequent UK history have yet to be fully researched, but we do know the Jaguar left Southampton bound for Australia in mid-1974, arriving in Sydney on October 30 on the SS Himalaya in what proved to be her final voyage before being scrapped. The E-type had been purchased by the vendor's father from a contact in the Fleet Air Arm and remained in his care before passing to his son, meaning it has spent a remarkable 42 years in the same family. The Jaguar was repainted in 1977 using enamel paint and more recently, the interior has undergone some minor repair work, with new seat backs fitted. The E-type is in presentable cosmetic condition considering it has never been restored as such, free of any major modifications, the interior nicely preserved with a lovely patina of age. Registered in NSW until 2006 (and now on club plates), the car does run and appears to be in reasonable mechanical order, although it has been stored for some time and will require a certain amount of recommissioning. The numbers on the engine block and head correspond to those on the data plate. The late owner's son is now selling the car due to a lack of use and other projects, this is a rare opportunity to acquire a very desirable early E-type Jaguar at No Reserve, with a factory service manual included in the sale. The Jaguar will be sold unregistered.

Just purchased this at the Shannons auction and it is on it's way to a good home in New Zealand. I am really interested in contacting the previous owner.

According to Shannon's website this vehicle sold for AU$105,000 at their auction in February 2017. It is not clear if this included a buyer's premium (or if any applied).

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
